How do I disable the vertical bookmarks menu?
Firefox has begun opening with a vertical menu bar for bookmarks on the left side of the window. Please tell me how to disable this. I'm using a Windows 8 Lenovo G505. Thank you for your help...
Jim

Hi Jim, the Alt key display the horizontal menu bar (File, Edit, View...). Ctrl+b opens and closes the Bookmarks Sidebar (assuming the web page you're viewing doesn't intercept Ctrl+b for other purposes, such as bolding text). Firefox tries to remember the last state of the window, so that could explain why now that it's closed, it stays closed.

Are you using a toolbar button when the Bookmarks Sidebar opens?
If so, you have the wrong "Bookmarks" button on the toolbar - there's two similar buttons in the Customize Palette, use the other one.
Ctrl+b opens and closes the Bookmarks Sidebar. (Or in other words, it's pretty easy to open accidentally without clicking a toolbar button.)
See also View > Sidebar > Bookmarks (Ctrl+B).
- Press the F10 key or tap the Alt key to bring up the hidden "Menu Bar" temporarily.
Thank you all for your replies... Firefox version is 23.0.1 The vertical bookmarks menu has been opening automatically every time I start a firefox session. Been happening since Labor Day weekend. I'm 99% sure I haven't accidentally opened it by pressing Cntl-B.
When I use bookmarks, I access them through the bookmarks menu button (white star in rectangle)located to the right of the search engine field. I find only that button in the Customize palette.
Pressing f10 opens the Win 8 Second Screen menu, tapping Alt opens the hidden menu. Now the vertical menu is not opening, and I can't even figure out how to open it to test the 'Alt' button on it. I don't know what caused this!!
This vertical toolbar is especially annoying because it occupies about 20% of the working area of the browser.
Thank you all again for taking time to help!! I greatly appreciate it. Jim
