Somehow, a web page came up and told me to download new updates. Now my Fire Fox has an x through it and i can not open firefox.

What website was it that told you that you needed to upgrade? There is a scam website that is telling users they need to upgrade to spread malware.
As for getting Firefox working again, you will have to use tenforfox as Firefox no longer runs on PPC macs. Firefox no longer works with Mac OS X 10.4 or PowerPC processors
