I have read the instruction "How do I customize the Add-on Bar" I am still unable to drag the items on the Add-On Bar in the order I want them to appear. I have Extensions i.e. Flipclock, Hebrew calendar, countdown clock etc on this bar and cannot arrange them to the order I want. What can I do?

hello joew. have you tried putting a separator between them? it worked for me when i was having a similar problem with icon arrangement in my navigation toolbar.

Extensions that are still using the older Statusbar icon coding are stuck in the order they were installed in and can't be moved. Newer Toolbar buttons placed on the Add-on bar don't have that limitation.

To check whether each one is an icon or a button is in the Customize Mode; if the "drag" hand cursor appears, it is a Toolbar button. If the cursor stays as an arrow, it's a legacy Statusbar icon that is stuck with the other icons and can't be moved except by moving the Toolbar buttons the left or right of the Statusbar icons. One of the downsides of Mozilla not dropping the legacy Statusbar icons back in Firefox 4.0 when the Add-on Bar was introduced.

The Organize Status Bar extension was updated to Firefox 4.0 - but in my experience it didn't work as well as in 3.6 & earlier versions - but it wasn't updated beyond that.

Hi edmeister. As you write it is a problem that was not dealt. It should be resolved ASAP so all the user upgrading to Firefox 8+ can personalize the application to their preferences. The Organize Status Bar Extension is not available for Firefox 8 so it is not a solution.

hello joew.

1.that's funny,you can't drag a separator to the add-ons bar!?i put "5 separators in a row," and kept adding more.all my icons arranged,& "stayed" perfectly wright where i put them.

2.you ff must be really messed up.i'm sorry you are having so much trouble!!! you could reinstall the ff,but i'm sure it will not solve the problem. you could ask someone from ff tech support to help,but they are impossible to get a hold of.

3.the only other thing i can think of is,go to:C:\Documents and Settings\YOUR NAME\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\kuzktezb.default,& start "manually messing with all the saved settings files." again,very bad idea,& i would not recommend it.(if you could find somebody who is a programmer.he could help.)

4.you could also,"ask someone you know,& trust" for their empty C:\Documents and Settings\YOUR NAME\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\kuzktezb.default\localstore.rdf with "nothing in it,but 3,or 4 separators."

a.open your customize toolbar panel,& drag Flipclock,Hebrew calendar, countdown clock,& ALL OTHERS into the customize toolbar panel.click done.

b.cut,& paste your localstore.rdf to C:\ for safe storage.(DO NOT DELETE IT.)

c.cut,& paste your "new" localstore.rdf into the kuzktezb.defaul folder.

d.open ff,& see what happens.(NOTE,YOU MAY,OR MAY NOT INHERIT THE OTHER PERSON'S FF SETTINGS.BUT YOU CAN CHANGE THAT WHILE YOU PUTTING YOUR STUFF BACK INTO THE ADD-ONS BAR.)

i had seen file swaps like this help before with setting,& saved options for all kinds of stuff.

hello joew. there might be an alternative to my last post.

1.close your ff,then locate,& copy your localstore.rdf to your C:\ FOLDER for safe storage.(DO NOT DELETE IT.)

2.open your ORIGINAL localstore.rdf with a notepad,& locate something like this: RDF:about="chrome://browser/content/browser.xul#addon-bar"

                  mode="icons"
                  collapsed="true"
                  currentset="addonbar-closebutton,status-bar,Flipclock,Hebrew calendar,countdown clock,...AND SO ON.

3.CHANGE IT TO:Flipclock,separator,Hebrew calendar,separator,countdown clock,separator,NEXT ADD-ON. AND SAVE.

LET ME KNOW IF THIS WORKED.(YOU MAY ALSO REMOVE SOME OF THE SEPARATORS,OR GROUP SIMILAR ADD-ONS BETWEEN THEM.JUST EXPERIMENT.)
