xp-sp3>firefox 3.6.18: I don't think this happened on previous versions of ff. On this pc, in order to delete bookmarks, i have to go into "organize bookmarks > bookmarks menu, and right click/delete them. On another xp pc in this house, i can just right click/delete them from the drop down box, can't figure that one out. Anyway, after i reboot, the deleted bookmarks magically reappear in the list. Also, when i download a program & wait till another time to load it, after a reboot its not in docs/downloads. Thats not all, when i delete programs in downloads that i've already installed or decide i didn't want, once again after a reboot, they magically reappear. One more, and after a reboot, the current day's history in ff is not saved. Gone. I have alot of security programs( that work well together) that have been on here for along time, so i'm pretty sure they're not interfering, nor any malware. I have no idea whats causing this since its happening in firefox & the pc itself. Haven't deleted anything in the registry, nor any other critical files, haven't changed settings in firefox options, & haven't added any new ff addons. Same ones, just some have updated. I added more memory 5 days ago from Crucial Memory, but i don't think that has anything to do with it. I'm trying to think of any other info i can provide to make it easier for someone to help, so if someone does & you need more info, i will check back periodically & provide anything else that could help. It's got me stumped. After all the problems i've read about on firefox forums about upgrading to ff4/5, i'm gonna stick with ff3.6.18 for now. Luckily no problems with a win 7x64 laptop. THANX for your time/help anyone.

Make sure that you are not deliberately clearing bookmarks and history, such as running in Privacy mode.

Not saving History (Tools -> options -> Privacy), make sure you are not clearing in "Settings for Clearing History"

Thanx for the reply. I haven't messed with the history settings. I did try one of the links you posted. I deleted the bookmarks i didn't want, backed up the bookmarks, and restored them. I'll reboot later on or when i log on tomorrow and hopefully the deleted ones won't be back. But i still have a problem with my deleted xp doc/downloads reappearing after a reboot. I've posted on a few xp forums, hopefully someone will have an answer. I'm going to step away from my pc for awhile, so if you reply, i'll try and reply asap. Thanx again.

If you can't permanently delete items then you may have a problem with corrupted sqlite files in the Firefox Profile Folder

Thanx cor-el for the reply. There are a zillion questions posted here & i'm lucky to get a reply from someone like you who volunteers their time. I went into every link that "dmcritchie" above your reply offered. I deleted some bookmarks i no longer wanted, backed the remaining ones up on a cd, then deleted the places file, restored the backups, rebooted, & unfortunately the deleted ones magically reappeared. New bookmarks i added, before the backup, aren't listed after the restore. Also my daily history is not being saved after a reboot either. This all started a few days ago. I've clicked on so many links from all the links he posted for me, and nothing seems to work. I went into "about:config" & reset "browser places bookmarks" too. I have 3 different problems now. If you saw my original post, i can't seem to delete program install files from my docs/downloads, they reappear after a reboot also. I deleted a bookmark in my second profile, rebooted & it magically reappeared also. I recently created a 3rd profile that won't show up in the profile mgr. I've read here & on mozilline about recovering profiles, but no where does it tell you EXACTLY how to get it to stay listed in the profile mgr. All 3 profiles are listed in the profile folder, but only the first 2 are in the "profiles.ini" file. When i click on it, the notepad opens & only the first 2 are listed. I even typed in the 3rd one and it wouldn't work. I have to create a new profile, rename it the same name as the new one in order to open the 3rd profile browser. Then after i close it, its not listed in the p-mgr., only the first 2 are. I'm stumped. I really need to the bookmark problem solved as i save new ones fairly often. I've been trying to sort this out all day long, its given me a headache. But anyway THANX for your time/help.

Looks that you have some security or virtulization software that is protecting those files and restores them. You will have to check which program is responsible for that.

Thanx again for the reply. I have no idea whats causing all this the last few days. I've had these security programs on here for along time & never had problems like these. I've posted on some win xp forums hoping someone has an answer about the deleted/reappearing/disappearing files in my docs folder. I don't know if that problem is related to saving all these in firefox or not. It boggles my sleepless, tired, little brain. Like I said in my last reply, i want to get the bookmark problem solved first. I deleted the places files, for the second time, rebooted, but bookmarks i deleted are still listed & new ones i added aren't listed. This only happens after i reboot, not from simply closing the browser & reopening it. I saw the link on this site to "the edmeister's website" & I emailed him about how to get my 3rd profile to stay listed in the profile mgr. since i saw a picture of his with alot of profiles listed. I posted a question on here a few weeks ago about the 3rd profile not being listed, & you said to make sure my security software isn't protecting the "ini.file". I have no idea how to check that out. The 3rd profile doesn't show up in the "ini.file". I linked to a mozillazine page about starting ff with a specific profile, it tells you how to bypass it, start from command line, creating a desktop shortcut, but nowhere does it tell you exactly how to get it to stay listed in the p-mgr. Please don't think i'm getting frustrated with you, i know you volunteer your time/help, because i would get sick of coming on here all the time trying to help people who get mad at me for not solving their problems. I couldn't do what you & the other volunteers do on a daily basis. THANX again for your time/help.
