Hello Les Block.

You can do different things, depending on what you actually want.

If you don't want Firefox to remember where you've been, go into Tools > Options > Privacy > Firefox will:Never remember history. You may use Tools > Options > Privacy > Firefox will:Use custom settings for history if you don't want Firefox to remember where you've been but still store cookies and stuff like that.

If you want to erase your browsing history, go into Tools > Clear Recent History...

If you want to delete specific entries on your history, hopefully this support article is what you need: https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Clear+Recent+History#Clearing_your_history_for_a_single_site

If you want to simply stop that dropdown from appearing (which is the simplest thing, but really won't change anything in technical terms), go into Tools > Options > Privacy > Location bar > When using the location bar, suggest:Nothing.

I hope that answers your question.

My problem is that when I make that change under the privacy tab, it reverts as soon as I close and re-open Firefox. Makes no sense to erase my browsing history automatically if every time Firefox opens and someone types into the location bar, my history pops up for them to read.
