My FF version 126.0.1 browser history file size is stuck at 10,240 KB. Until recently it was 54,000 KB and change. I would like to get it larger. I've tried all the recent help postings relating to places.history.expiration.max_pages, places.history.expiration.transient_current_max_pages, browser.history_expire_days, browser.sessionhistory.max_entries or browser.sessionhistory_max_entries, and so on. Nothing seems to be able to change the "places" file size. Anyone have any more info on this topic?

internet60623, are you talking about the places.sqlite file?

I believe that this file only increases in size when this is needed, based on the current number of bookmarks and websites you have in your history etc. You should see it grow over time as you add more bookmarks and visit more sites and so on.

Hello--Thanks for your reply, but the "places" file has not grown over time for a couple of months. It remains constant at 10,240 KB regardless of how many websites I visit. I want to have it increase to a maximum level I define to avail myself of older history.

I believe that once places.sqlite runs out of room it increases by a couple of mb, and then remains the same size on your harddrive until all of the new space has been filled. Then it adds another couple of mb.

Your file size is remaining static because you haven't yet filled the file up with enough data. It still has unused space left within it.

Assuming that you never delete history and / or keep adding new bookmarks, then one day it will become a few mb bigger.

Thanks again, but this still doesn't solve the problem. There are URL addresses in "history" that should appear in the address bar when I begin to type, which does happen for recent websites. However, when I start to type a website address that I haven't accessed for about three weeks, it just sits there and I have to type the whole thing all over again because it's no longer retained in "history." Also, as I mentioned in my first post, the file size of "places" was over 50 KB until just recently. I did try the about:config hacks mentioned in Mozilla posts on the internet, but so far (1) I can't increase the "places" file size, and (2) my URLs keep dropping out of "history" after a while of non-access. I need them to stay accessible longer with a larger "places" file. I could revert back to an older version of FF, but that seems to be a really caveman way of solving the problem.

internet60623, do these URLs that fail to autofill still exist in history? If you press ctrl+H to open the history side panel then enter them into the search box, do they appear there? (Obviously this needs to be tested after discovering that a URL does not autocomplete, but before manually entering the whole address and going there)

Also did you recently verify the integrity of the Places Database on the Troubleshooting Information page? Doing this can cause the places.sqlite file size to reduce, as it may remove unused space within the file.
