Macos Ventura:

Greetings,

When I started getting msgs saying my browser was no longer supported, I checked my version. Firefox says i have v115esr and that it is "up to date" - i.e. no update available at this time. I assumed I was getting the brush off from those web sites.

Why did Firefox not bring me up to v124? I get a "download update" probably once a month. It's been giving me a new variation of 115esr all along.

I've now downloaded 124 from your site. What do I need to do so that I stay current in the future? Thanks John

Clues lead me to believe that firefox is stuck on believing I'm running an unsupported version of macos leaving me in esr limbo. Clue 1: The ask a question support page hyper links to an educated guess of my system being macos 10.15.7 Clue 2: I created a mozilla password to send my question in. I then received a password activity email from mozilla stating a computer running macos 10.15.7 had made changes. As I'm running macos 13.x.y, the solution is to make Firefox see the correct os. Any way to do this without wiping out my bookmarks? If not I'll remember to do manual updates in the future.

Were you by chance using macOS 10.12, 10.13 or 10.14 before upgrading up to macOS 13.x ?. Or maybe wherever you downloaded Firefox from at the time it was a ESR version like 102 ESR or 115 ESR instead of the Release version=.

Firefox 115 ESR is being served to those who have macOS 10.12, 10.13, 10.14 as Firefox 116.0 or later requires macOS 10.15 at minimum to run. https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/firefox-users-macos-1012-1013-1014-moving-to-extended-support

The Firefox UserAgent will show you have macOS 10.15 regardless of what macOS version you have if 10.15 or later.

A version on ESR channel will not update to Release channel. If you want to use the current Release then you can download it from https://www.mozilla.org/firefox/all/#product-desktop-release

You settings like Bookmarks and such are not in the program folder but in a separate Profile location. https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/profiles-where-firefox-stores-user-data

On what websites do you see this? Version 115 should be new enough for most sites.

The ESR (Extended Support Release) channel only gets security updates until the next ESR milestone (128).

Thanks for the reply and links James.

To answer your question, I transferred my software from a laptop running OSX 10.11.

I've now installed v124 and all is well with the website in question. I'll do manual update checks if a website doesn't like firefox in the future.

Note that this websites shows a useragent that has Mac OS 10.15 for all MacOS versions of 10.15 and later, i.e. they do not show MacOS 11-14 via the useragent. This website can detect the actual MacOS version if you supply Troubleshooting Information.

Ah so you were likely using Firefox 78.15.0esr as that is the most current that supports macOS 10.9, 10.10, 10.11.

https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/firefox-mac-osx-users-esr

You then stayed on the ESR channel and updated to 115 ESR on your new macbook.
