Hi,

So I very rarely use facebook for anything other than messages, and occasionally log into it from firefox. I would even say that I go out of my way to use it as little as possible. The past few weeks I have however been getting popup notifications for new messages from firefox notifying me of messenger messages when I have no facebook messenger tabs open.

I do not have any plugins that would affect this in any way which leads me to believe that Firefox is keeping me connected to facebook when I don't want it to.

If this is the case I'd love to know where the settings for this are, because any search results I do lead me to plugins, which I don't believe this to be an issue with, and maybe also recommend not to have them on by default. When I have my browser open I like to know that what I see is what I get, and having facebook open in the background without my knowledge, I do not appreciate.

Take a look at your Firefox notification settings: Firefox's notification settings might be letting facebook send you notifications even when you don't have their tabs open. Here's how you can adjust them:

  1. Click on the three horizontal lines in the top-right corner to open the menu.
  2. Choose 'Settings'.
  3. In the left sidebar, click on 'Privacy & Security.'
  4. Scroll down to the 'Permissions' section and locate 'Notifications.'
  5. Click on 'Settings' next to Notifications and go through the list of websites permitted to send you notifications. Feel free to remove any sites you'd rather not get notifications from.

If that does not work for you might want to check Facebook Settings.

Websites can establish a background process for push notifications using "service workers." I'm always a little surprised which sites are still running when I visit the About Service Workers page. Type or paste about:serviceworkers in the address bar and press Enter to load that page. If there are sites you don't plan to revisit and don't want to hear from for the rest of your session, use the Unregister button to unload their service worker. It's not recommended to do this with any sites that are still open in a tab.

You may need to change FB's notification settings. Remove the blank space in link below.
