Has something changed with how Firefox Auto Login feature works? There were a number of low risk sites that I had memorized the User & PW for and every time I went to those sites I'd be logged in. A little while ago this stopped working.

I've done a little digging and all the memorized PWs are still in Firefox. If I click on the User name I will see the correct User appear as a suggestion and using it will log me in.

I've reset Firefox and have gone back to these sites and manually reentered the User & PW, but when I go back, again I have to go through the steps to log in. I also reached out to one of the sites to see if they have made any changes that would prevent Firefox from an Auto Login and they said they had not made any changes.

I always set Banks, Email and any other site that could cause an issue to Never remember the Login info. So I'd like to turn off this added restriction if it is something Firefox has added.

Thoughts or recommendations?

Sorry... I guess I wasn't explicit that the Auto Fill is already checked. (Actually been unchecked and rechecked a couple of times.)

I don't see anything any different in the way my settings have been for years. The Auto Fill just stopped working a couple of months ago and possibly after an update, but couldn't swear to the timing. That is why I also did the full Reset of Firefox.

Detail like websites remembering you and log you in automatically is stored in cookies, so make sure you aren't clearing important cookies.

You can use these steps to make a website recognize and remember you.

  • create a cookie allow exception with the proper protocol (https:// or http://) to make a website remember you

You can check that you aren't clearing important cookies.

  • using "Delete cookies and site data when Firefox is closed" keeps cookies with an allow exception
  • using "Clear history when Firefox closes" to clear cookies clears all cookies including cookies with an allow exception you may want to keep
  • clearing "Site Preferences" clears exceptions for cookies, images, pop-up windows, and software installation and exceptions for passwords and other website specific data
  • Settings -> Privacy & Security
    Cookies and Site Data: "Manage Exceptions"
  • Settings -> Privacy & Security
    Firefox will: "Use custom settings for history":
    [X] "Clear history when Firefox closes" -> Settings

Yes, all Cookies were cleared to make sure non were corrupt and then obviously restored when I went back to the websites.

All the obvious things have been done.

Guess if someone doesn't have an out-of-the-box idea, the only recourse is to uninstall Firefox and them manually confirm all traces are removed. Then try again and see what happens.

The point is that you need to ensure to keep cookies for website that I want to remember you and you also shouldn't clear the Site Preferences as that includes clearing exceptions. What as your current cookie settings and settings for "Clear history when Firefox closes" if you have enabled this feature ?

Correct... You do not want to clear needed cookies.
