Unwanted autodownload
Today I visited this site/link:

To get some file searching software. To my surprise the file just autodownloaded. I tried it out several times and it autodownloads everytime. I still get asked if I want to download on other sites. So whats happening here and how do I make it stop?

I don't get anything on that page, but if I follow a couple links there is a Zip file download. Is that the one which is saving automatically?
Firefox 98 changed most content types to download automatically without asking whether you want to open them. Instead, the Downloads list opens after the file was saved. To take more control:
(1) You can try changing the behavior for the specific file type on the Applications list on the Settings page. This article has the steps:
Manage file types and download actions in Firefox
(2) If the file type you want to manage is not listed there, try this first: open the Downloads list, right-click the file, and choose Always Open Similar Files.
Firefox then should add that file type to the Applications list with a "Use [default application]" action. Then you can use the steps in the previously mentioned article to change it to an Always Ask action if you prefer that.
(3) If that menu item is missing for these downloads, the site might be misidentifying the file as generic binary content instead of identifying it as a specific type.
This is harder to work around. I can suggest an add-on if you encounter this frequently.

Surprisingly it doesnt happen anymore. But I know it wasnt a mistake, I tried 3 times and all 3 times it autodownloaded. Its sad to hear that they are making it this difficult to enjoy a secure browser. I mean I just DONT GET IT, why do they think changing the user settings for us is something we would be happy about? Its been like that for many updates now so I can only conclude that they think we want it like that. And why do they think we would be happy when they seemingly intentionally make things less and less secure? I just DONT GET IT. If we wanted firefox to be like chrome we wouldve downloaded chrome. I must be stupid, thats the only explanation. It almost looks like theyre in big corps' pockets and intentionally making it easier for trackers and the rest of the rats to somehow get access for every update thrown up...
