I play cards at cardzmania.com using Firefox. If I exit Firefox and reload it, cardzmania remembers exactly where I was. Formerly, I could stop this by clearing the cache files at c:/users/user_name/AppData/Local/Temp andc:/users/user_name/AppData/Local/Mozilla. This no longer works. Even if I use Privazer to clear temporary Internet files, cardzmania remembers me.

In short, Mozilla is storing user data in a file I can't find and empty.

This disturbs me.

I'm not terribly concerned about cardzmania taking over my computer for nefarious purposes or spying on me, but the inability to find and delete files that permit cardzmania to remember who I am means other programs could do the same.

If you keep tabs open when you close Firefox and let Firefox restore them on the next start then this includes cookies used in these tabs. This is stored as part of session data in sessionstore.jsonlz4 in the profile folder and not in the cookies database.

  • about:config => browser.sessionstore.privacy_level = 0, change to 2 to prevent this

That data might be in the cookies the website puts on your browser. Is there a reason you want to clear this? Is there an issue?

Thanks for your thoughts. It is a minor issue, but indicates to me a potential security flaw. When I delete the files in the Temp and Mozilla folders, and run Privazer, it should erase all the cookies. This isn't happening.

If you were to clear all the cookies, the websites would not have your data available. Like your name, settings, and so on.

Type about:preferences#privacy<enter> in the address bar. The button next to History, select Use Custom Settings.

Turn off Always Use Private Browsing Mode Turn on Remember My Browsing And Download History At the bottom of the page, turn on Clear History When Firefox Closes. At the far right, press the Settings button. Turn on ONLY Cache and Form And Search History and whatever else you want.

Macs: Make sure you install Firefox properly and that you do not run Firefox from within the DMG (Disk Images) file. https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/how-download-and-install-firefox-mac

Thanks. I'll try "Delete cookies and site data when Firefox is closed" in Help/Settings/Privacy and Security.
