A Firefox update disabled/killed the Firefox on my Desktop... Twice.
I'm fed up with the lack of support from Firefox. This issue has been going on for three weeks. The last Firefox update crashed TWICE! When I opened a Google/Firefox, An Update window popped up. Since I normally let them download or whatever they do, I wasn't concerned. Then it showed an "Error". I didn't see an "Error Code Number or Name" as it disappeared quickly. I tried to open Firefox/Google. To my surprise, all I got was a Blank Window. I tried clicking on the "Home Icon". Nothing changed. I tried my Bookmarks. No affect. I WAS Signed In. I tried finding the Fictional "Firefox Support". I got nowhere. I would've Googled the issue, but I couldn't even use that. Nothing Worked. I finely decided to download a NEW Firefox/Google. Once I did, it worked fine all day. The next day, I opened the newly Downloaded one. Again I was greeted by the Firefox "Update" It started, then showed an Error. Again, I tried to open Firefox/Google. I got the same blank page as before. I decided to Remove, ALL Firefox/Google. from my Computer. Then I download another New Firefox. I made ONE change. I stopped Firefox from Updating Automatically. Day three, I opened Firefox, I opened normally... Almost. Now I have the SAME Firefox Update waiting. If I let it Download, it may Crash again. I lost ALL of my Bookmarks too. I went to the Recommended Firefox Site to retrieve them... It was a LIE! Now I have the SAME Firefox Update waiting. I have NEVER missed an Update Let me guess what Firefox is going to say. That is IF they reply at all; No one else reported this issue. ( And I have Ocean front property in Arizona). Make sure your operating system is up to date. (I must be too stupid to keep my system up and maintain this Machine). I should upgrade to the (The Digital Pile of...... that goes by the name) Windows 10, and (The Garbage called) Google Chrome. (Why would I Downgrade to one System that didn't work when it was released, a Browser that was Garbage when it was offered the first time (In 2008), and they WON'T Fix? I'd be better off taking a hammer to my PC. and my own head).
Just a quick note. When I first signed up for Google (Prior to the 2008 Google Chrome fiasco.) my Gmail stopped working. I could receive Mail, but I couldn't Open, Read, Delete, or anything else. This lasted for Five Years. I tried getting Help. I never got a reply from anyone. Then it started working. No explanation from Google.
Don't bother telling me "Well... It is Free". It isn't.

You can start Firefox in its Safe Mode and it is still broken, or you can't start Firefox in its Safe Mode?

I don't know what you mean by "an odd page".

You also could try this:
New Profile Test
This takes about 3 minutes, plus the time to test some problem site(s).
Inside Firefox, type or paste about:profiles in the address bar and press Enter/Return to load it.
Click the "Create a New Profile" button, then click Next. Assign a name like May2020, ignore the option to relocate the profile folder, and click the Finish button.
After creating the profile, scroll down to it and click the Launch profile in new browser button.
Firefox should open a new window that looks like a brand new, uncustomized installation. (Your existing Firefox window(s) should not be affected.) Please ignore any tabs enticing you to connect to a Sync account or to activate extensions found on your system so we can get a clean test.
Do your problem site(s) work any better in the new profile?
When you are done with the experiment, you can close the extra window without affecting your regular Firefox profile. (May2020 will remain available for future testing.)
Note: if this test changed your default profile, use the Set as Default Profile button for your regular profile to set it back to normal.

What do you want to see on the new tab page?
You can add/remove categories on the built-in new tab page using the settings on the Options page Home panel. See: Hide or display content in New Tab.
If you don't want to use the built-in new tab page, you can use an add-on to substitute a different page. For example: https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/new-tab-override/

Some of the types of content in the new tab tap into your history. If you have those selected on the Options page but they don't appear on the new tab, perhaps there is a problem with the database that stores history and bookmarks.
Could you let us know what you get when you run the "Verify Integrity" function. That's here:
Open Firefox's Troubleshooting Information page using any of these methods:
- "3-bar" menu button > "?" Help > Troubleshooting Information

- type or paste about:support in the address bar and press Enter
Near the bottom, there is a section titled Places Database -- that's the file which stores history and bookmarks. Click the button labeled Verify Integrity. There may be a 10-15 second delay before results appear.
If all is well, the report that appears below the button should start with:

Does yours say that, or something else? You can select and copy the report, and then paste it into a reply for review and comment.
It's as you expected. I don't know if any personal info is in there, or if there's something I supposed to look for.
You can check for problems with preferences. You can delete possible user.js and numbered prefs#-##.js files and rename/remove the prefs.js file to reset all prefs to the default value including prefs set via user.js and prefs that are no longer supported in current Firefox releases.
You can use the button on the "Help -> Troubleshooting Information" (about:support) page to go to the current Firefox profile folder or use the about:profiles page.

Do a clean reinstall of the current Firefox release and delete the Firefox program folder before installing a fresh copy of the current Firefox release.

If possible uninstall your current Firefox version to cleanup the Windows Registry and settings in security software.
- do NOT remove "personal data" when you uninstall the current Firefox version, because this will remove all profile folders and you lose personal data like bookmarks and passwords including personal data in profiles created by other Firefox versions
Remove the Firefox program folder before installing that newly downloaded copy of the Firefox installer.

- it is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling
Your personal data like bookmarks is stored in the Firefox profile folder, so you won't lose personal data when you reinstall or update Firefox, but make sure NOT to remove personal data when you uninstall Firefox as that will remove all Firefox profile folders and you lose your personal data.
If you keep having problems then you can create a new profile as a quick test to see if your current profile is causing the problem.
I don't understand a word of what you wrote. I'm not some I. T.(?) person. The only reason I haven't bought a new Desktop is, the latest Windows (whatever) is like Google Chrome... Digital garbage. Nothing with this new Firefox is fixed, but it works like it did before Some Maroon decided to sneak the latest Update Garbage past my "Ask First Setting". What's the sense in Setting it to "Ask First" if some Circus Clown can get past it anytime they please? I can't be the only person having these issues with Firefox. I'm sure if I want to waste more of my time searching the Internet, I'll find a lot more people having the same issues with Firefox... Including either someone at Firefox sneaking faulty Updates past their "Ask First Setting", or Changing said Settings. I'd much rather spend my time doing Research.
