What happened to restore session after FF 66.0.5?

Until FF 67.0 was released I had few problems with 66.0.5, and many of the previous updates. I tried the update to FF 67.0 and immediately realized I was unable to restore previous sessions (where I have a open windows, each with a series of tabs for specific categories of websites I often use. In 67.0, and 67.0.1 there is no longer any restore session function that I can see. If I start FF there is still no obvious way to restore those windows and tabs. And the theme seems to have changed to black tabs

I downgraded to 66.0.5 but those windows and tabs were still gone. In my Mac's Time Machine backups I went back a few days to before the issue started, dragged out the Firefox folder and relaunched FF 67.0. Same problem - the restore data was totally gone! Went back to Time Machine, trashed the Firefox folder in ~/Users/Home/Library/Application Support and replaced it with another days older FF folder and launched from 66.0.5. All the old windows and tabs opened - but now 66.0.5 was unstable and would crash over and over, every 5-10-15 minutes for no other reason than I clicked on a link (not from a new possibly infected site, but from familiar sites like NY Times, Amazon, or similar links in the same tabs that had been restored-tabs used repeatedly. I tried going back to 66.0.4, 66.0.3, etc. Same instability that was never a problem when I last had them installed.

It seems that just installing 67.0 left some other files, but not in the Firefox folder in ~/Users/Home/Library/Application Support - as that folder was changed out completely. It can't be a coincidence that 66.0.5 went unstable just after 67.0 was first installed. And the new profile structure shouldn't have changed anything as I use only Firefox on my MacBook Pro and have no other installations of FF - and have no interest in syncing to my cell or anywhere else at this time.

Additionally FF has crashed twice as I wrote this and only selecting the text and dragging clippings to desktop kept me writing or I'd have given up. If you want other logs/crash reports, etc. from the Mac, on request, I'll send them separately - there's too much ID info in them for public display
