Firefox Quantum - 61.0 (64-bit) Extensions - AdBlocker Ultimate, McAfee Web Advisor, Popup-Blocker, Nord VPN Proxy Extension (inactive)

I had an open browser session. I left the room and when I came back, two new browser windows (not tabs) were open and on the home page, appearing above my first (and only user-initiated) window. This has occurred before but now it's occurring with greater frequency. It doesn't occur with Google Chrome.

I've run Malwarebytes, McAfee Antivirus and Windows Defender and they turned up nothing. I'm concerned as I've been the target of multiple hacking attacks in the past (I worked in fraud/AML for a high-risk industry).

Any ideas or theories welcome. Thanks in advance!

I don't know whether it's possible to determine the trigger for a new windows, whether it was from within Firefox (a web page, an add-on) or external (e.g., another application, a scheduled task).

Since the new windows do not show a particular page, we don't have a lot of clues to go on. Do they have any "back" history?

Thanks for your reply!

No, there isn't any "back" history in the windows; they open and remain on the default home page.

I'll update this thread if I notice any more odd behaviour.

Cheers
