hi--immediately following installing a "Cumulative+Security+Update+for+Internet+Explorer" (i'm not sure which KB-#, but the install did not complete somehow, and it's not in my "add/remove programs" window (yes, i clicked "show updates" box)), Firefox will not launch--no error message, only that dreaded Windows tone. Will not launch in SafeMode either, and System Restore will not function. My main concern at this point, that is if i absolutely cannot fix and open my previously installed version of Firefox, is to protect my mile-long bookmarks and years-old browsing history, and maybe even restore my last browsing session! If i need to install another version, what is the procedure to be certain that previous data-bookmarks/browsing history- will not be overwritten, or deleted somehow?

thank you--liz

You can't they install on the same location. Might be different if you install a 32bit version and then a 64bit version but one or the other will override the other is what will happen. The 64bit will install only if you have 64bit O/S installed. I doubt you can have two 32bit or two 64bit Browser installed.

Firefox comes in two or more folders on all computers. They are;

Maintenance: (Programs Folder) <Windows Only> Firefox itself: (Programs Folder) And two folders in the profile of each user on the computer for each Firefox profile for that user.

If you remove the Firefox folder, the user folders would not be affected.

When you use the Firefox installer, it will overwrite the currently installed program. If you want to install more then one Firefox, you must run the installer in Manual mode, and place each Firefox in its own folder.

It is also recommended that each program use its own profile.
