Download continues to fail
I'm posting this again because I haven't been able to find the first post.
I've been trying to download FF57 to my Toshiba notebook running Windows 7 Starter. It always runs into an error late in the process ("Hmmm... Something happened..."). I've tried going to an older version, FF56.2 32-bit, and the same thing happens. The version that I had that was working was deleted, I guess during the installation of the new one. I'm using Google Chrome now but would like to go back to Firefox.
I've deleted the Firefox folders under the %APPSDATA% directory and I really don't know what else to do. Any ideas?

I downloaded the 32-bit English US version and ran the .exe. It went through the extraction to 100%, and nothing appeared. No new file to run, nada.
My Avast antivirus program has all shields turned off.
Some protection programs don't like the update/install stubs.
Let’s do a full clean re-install;
Download Firefox For All languages And Systems {web link}
Save the file. Then Close Firefox.
Using your file browser, open the Programs Folder on your computer.
Windows: C:\Program Files C:\Program Files (x86)
Mac: Open the "Applications" folder. https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/how-download-and-install-firefox-mac
Linux: Check your user manual. If you installed Firefox with the distro-based package manager, you should use the same way to uninstall it. See Install Firefox on Linux; https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/install-firefox-linux
If you downloaded and installed the binary package from the Firefox download page, simply remove the folder Firefox in your home directory. http://www.mozilla.org/firefox#desktop ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Do Not remove the profiles folder.
Look for, and rename any Mozilla or Firefox program folders by adding .old to them. Do not rename the Mozilla Thunderbird folder if there is one.
After rebooting the computer, run a registry scanner if you have one. Then run the installer. If all goes well, remove the OLD folders when you are done. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++ If there is a problem, start your Computer in safe mode and try again.

Thank you, Fred McD. Did all that, including booting in Safe Mode for the install. It did bring up the Install Wizard screen at least, then said that it couldn't find firefox.exe. It created the Mozilla Firefox directory in C:\Program Files, but only with the install.log file and the UNINSTALL directory.
The install.log shows an error with the DLL Registration, but I don't know what to do about that. Any help would be appreciated.
