Hello,

The Refresh feature (called "Reset" in older Firefox versions) can fix many issues by restoring Firefox to its factory default state while saving your bookmarks, history, passwords, cookies, and other essential information.

Note: When you use this feature, you will lose any extensions, toolbar customizations, and some preferences. See the Refresh Firefox - reset add-ons and settings article for more information.

To Refresh Firefox:

  1. Open the Troubleshooting Information page using one of these methods:
    • Click the menu button New Fx Menu, click help Help-29 and select Troubleshooting Information. A new tab containing your troubleshooting information should open.
    • If you're unable to access the Help menu, type about:support in your address bar to bring up the Troubleshooting Information page.
  2. At the top right corner of the page, you should see a button that says "Refresh Firefox" ("Reset Firefox" in older Firefox versions). Click on it.
  3. Firefox will close. After the refresh process is completed, Firefox will show a window with the information that is imported.
  4. Click Finish and Firefox will reopen.

Did this fix the problem? Please report back to us!

Thank you.

This didn't help at all. The only thing in the upper right is: Give Firefox a tune up.

If I do need to delete and reinstall. How do I save bookmarks and stuff like that?

HI

Yes, that is the Refresh feature. Click the button under that text and it should clear up any "gremlins" preventing you from downloading.

I'll give it a try.

Didn't help. What else should I try?

But now I have two options in the upper right box. Give Firefox a tune up Try Safe Mode

It is possible that security software (anti-virus, firewall) is causing the problem. Try to disable security software temporarily to see if that makes a difference.

Boot the computer in Windows Safe Mode with network support (press F8 on the boot screen or hold down the Shift key) to see if that has effect.

I am actually using XP not 10.

There are instructions for Windows XP in the first article (press F8 while booting) as posted above. The line about Windows 10 is for Windows 10 users that read this question.

If it makes any difference it's XP Pro.

For about the last week, I have not been able to download anything with Firefox. IE downloads work just fine, but I have grown very accustomed to Firefox. I am running Windows XP Pro, Malwarebytes, and AVG free. Could it be a problem with conflicting protection programs? Maybe it is just that I'm running an obsolete OS?

However, I just don't have the money or the fancy confuser to convert to Windows 10

(I just posted this message on another forum)
