Firefox or the computer?

It could be the work of one of your add-ons. Type about:addons<enter> in the address bar to open your Add-ons Manager. Hot key; <Control>(Mac=<Command>)<Shift> A)

In the Add-ons Manager, on the left, select Extensions. Disable a few add-ons, then Restart Firefox.

Some added toolbar and anti-virus add-ons are known to cause Firefox issues. Disable All of them.

If the problem continues, disable some more (restarting FF). Continue until the problem is gone. After, you know what group is causing the issue. Re-enable the last group ONE AT A TIME (restarting FF) until the problem returns.

Once you think you found the problem, disable that and re-enable all the others, then restart again. Let us know who the suspect is, detective.

What are you using as your homepage?

Type about:preferences#general<enter> in the address bar.

There are two settings;

  • When Firefox Starts

When the browser is started, what do you want to display? Many of us choose Show My Home Page.

  • Home Page

When a new page is opened, what do you want to be displayed?

  1. Use Current Page. Use what ever page(s) are open at that time.
  2. Use Bookmark
  3. Restore To Default. about:home shows a Mozilla home page with tools.

You can use any of these that you wish;

about:home (Firefox default home page), about:newtab (shows the sites most visited), about:blank (a blank page),

or you can enter any webpage or about: page you want.

I use Current Page. Message appears every time I start Firefox. There can be any page.

Do you have the Skype Click-to-Call extension enabled? Try disabling that (and any unnecessary extensions) on the Add-ons page. Either:

  • Ctrl+Shift+a (Mac: Command+Shift+a)
  • "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons

In the left column, click Extensions. Then cast a critical eye over the list on the right side. All extensions are optional. If in doubt, disable.

Often a link will appear above at least one disabled extension to restart Firefox. You can complete your work on the tab and click one of the links as the last step.

Any improvement?

Sorry, I don't have skype extension. I read about problems it may cause, but I really don't have this extension. I have some other disabled extensions. Could they cause such a problem? This's problem appeared only recently. I can't uninstall disabled extension. There is no button.

A disabled extension shouldn't be triggered when you load a page...

Could you share with us your current list of enabled and disabled extensions? The simplest way is to view the full list on the troubleshooting information page. Either:

  • "3-bar" menu button > "?" button > Troubleshooting Information
  • (menu bar) Help > Troubleshooting Information
  • type or paste about:support in the address bar and press Enter/Return

Then scroll down to Extensions and just below that heading, select the table with your mouse and copy it (either Ctrl+c or right-click > Copy), then paste it into a reply (either Ctrl+v or right-click > Paste). It will look a bit messy, but we're used to it. Thanks.
