Just installed Thunderbird 45.2.0 Now I can't download any messages!??

No down load of new emails, will not save drafts, and will not send our emails. Trash folder shows 105 emails, but none show up in the folder. Basically my Firefox is now TRASH as it does not work is so many areas. I have had this computer connected to a network in Charlotte NC, and her at home in Staunton , Virginia. Same problem. When I click on "Get Messages" the icon just twirls and at the bottom is this message (see uploaded image). Is there a way I can export my saved messages and save them? Then I can dump Thunderbird and then reinstall.
