Some of my most trusted and respected advisers are here. I just spent fifteen days trying to re-install Win10. Each day - almost - brought about awful challenges. Each disruption was basically new and never-experienced-before, with issues lasting two - five days or so. Situations I couldn't get out of and for which nobody had an answer. MANY people had the same things happen. As I figured a way out of bizarre results, I drew two conclusions. I know without a doubt that Win 10 is corrupt and not ready for mass distribution. I also know that Win7 Backup & Restore doesn't work when you really need it to work. I ended up with missing and corrupted system images and totally missing data files after failed upgrades/re-installs. It's amazing the data I have left. Don't get me wrong - I couldn't be more grateful not to start from zero. But, I work too hard at doing the right thing - and I work too long to end up with an empty C drive. I am over one-hundred days behind on the date/data. For images, people recommend Macrium Free. People also swear by Acronis, I almost bought Acronis until I read that I should avoid the 2016 version. I stopped downloading Macrium because I thought it said it would have to wipe my hard drive if I installed it. I probably read too fast - that sounds like a restore situation. Are there several versions and that was the wrong one? I have no idea what an imaging program requires. (I didn't investigate cloning and my mind is saturated anyway.) As far as data files - I never used anything but native Windows programs. I could try Win10 History or I could stick with B & R - but why? It has, though restored more than it failed. It doesn't matter whether I have to run two programs (or ten - or a hundred) for the optimal results. Happy with the external Seagate HD. Will buy DVDs or spare thumb drives, soon. I don't have special requirements, but I run daily backups and make weekly images. My two cents: FEBE is a perfect program. It's brilliant and reliable, as Mr Baker must also be.
