I have had this issue since firefox version 30ish and it's irritating. When I hover into any links or button in firefox and thunderbird, it shows empty box with no text. I have tried disabling h/w acceleration on firefox config, messing up about:config settings, installing/re-installing multiple times with multiple versions, and nothing. I also have followed this instruction (http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?f=38&t=566877) from 2007 and still nothing. For now I am stumped and humbly looking for anybody who could help me here.

I am using Windows 10 (updated from win 8 which is updated from win 7). I also have this problem when I install Thunderbird so I think it's related.

You can try to disable hardware acceleration in Firefox.

  • Tools > Options > Advanced > General > Browsing: "Use hardware acceleration when available"

You need to close and restart Firefox after toggling this setting.

You can check if there is an update for your graphics display driver and check for hardware acceleration related issues.
