Thunderbird is installed. I like it. But I've spent an hour trying to find simple advice on what the security settings should be. Now I give up. Consider me a rank amateur and please advise me on the security settings - in Outlook Express my Security Encrypting preferences were Algorithm 3DES. Is there something comparable in Thunderbird? And why, in Account Settings under my e-mail address at Server Settings, does it show a News Server for server name? Is that correct? Additional, should there be Connection Security for outgoing mail? I tried it and got a message about connectivity problems. Finally why, when I get an e-mail where I used to see its contents, am I now invited to "View this message on a web browser?" I want to see it as part of the e-mail. Thank you very much for your help. George Malko

re :And why, in Account Settings under my e-mail address at Server Settings, does it show a News Server for server name? Is that correct?

It does not sound like you have set up your mail account correctly. It sounds like you have set up your email address as a news feed account, which is obviously wrong and may be the reason you have other issues.

Suggest you create a new existing mail account for your email address and then delete the incorrect one.

File > New > Exisiting mail account. or Menu icon > New Message > Exisiting mail account

Enter name, email address and password. click on 'Continue' Thunderbird will try to configure settings. you can manually enter settings by clicking on 'Manual Config' button. Make sure you have the correct server type selected - POP or IMAP. click on 'Done' to create a mail account for that email address.

To remove incorrect 'news server' mail account. In Account Settings: Tools > Account Settings or Menu icon > Options > Account Settings or right click on mail account and select 'Settings' select the 'news' mail account click on 'account Actions' select 'Remove account' click on OK
