Why don't you fix refresh firefox? It should be refined such that it is easier to restore settings, as it caused more problems than it solved

Refresh firefox caused more problems than it solved. I was shocked at the time that I had to waste restoring my settings.

I believe it may be possible to write a refresh script that does not get rid of all custom settings and bookmarks.

Sometimes, its the settings or something in the user profile that is causing the problem. The refresh / reset removes everything.

Look on your desktop. Do you see a folder called; Old Firefox?

These can't get your data back, but will help in the future.

These add-ons can be a great help by backing up and restoring Firefox

FEBE (Firefox Environment Backup Extension) {web link} FEBE allows you to quickly and easily backup your Firefox extensions, history, passwords, and more. In fact, it goes beyond just backing up -- It will actually rebuild your saved files individually into installable .xpi files. It will also make backup of files that you choose.

I'll try the add-ons. I did use the Old Firefox file, but was still a hassle. It is odd that settings are allowed that could cause a problem. Evidently more conflict error checking needed. It is always easier to "re-image" rather than repair software or hardware, but always incurs restoration work that can be time consuming.
