Why don't I get MMS over wifi?

I don't know if this is a carrier issue (Simple Mobile) or a Firefox OS issue, but I can only receive MMS using my data plan. If I'm connected to a wireless netowrk/wifi hotspot, I do not receive MMS messages (in the case of group texts) or I get the message but cannot download the attached photo without turning wifi off and using the SIM card data.

There are two situations that I'm dealing with. First, when iphone users (and maybe others? Androids don't seem to do this) send an SMS message to multiple recipients, it comes as an MMS. If I'm home and connected to wifi I don't get the message or any indication that a message was sent. I leave the house (and the wifi network) and suddenly get a bunch of messages that are hours old.

Second, if anyone sends me a text with a photo attached, I get the text portion and then it says it is "Downloading ..." but the photo won't actually download until I turn wireless off.

SMS messages come through just fine.

I believe that I was able to get MMS via wifi at some point when I first got the phone but I'm not actually sure of that.

MMS comes from your carrier, it's strictly a carrier thing. It is virtually impossible to get MMS over WiFi. This is because the information that you need to retrieve the MMS is stored with your carrier so, that's why you can't get MMS over WiFi.

Thanks

Hello!

Sorry to hear about the trouble you are having.

Could you confirm a few settings for me?

Launch the Settings app from the homescreen. Tap Messaging Settings. Be sure the Auto retrieve field is set to "On without roaming".

Back out of Messaging Settings. Tap Cellular and Data. Scroll to Message settings. Could you please report the settings listed there?

Thank you for the information!

According to the Simple Mobile website , the MMSC field is supposed to be http://smpl.mms.msg.eng.t-mobile.com/mms/wapenc. Another option would be to contact Simple Mobile and walk through the Message settings, asking what to fill for each field.

I hope that helps you!

Hi amandabee,

This issue is being tracked on Bug 1046517, which is dependent on Bug 992772.

Bug 992772 has recently received a patch, so this issue may be resolved in the recent future. Please keep in mind that it may take some time until you receive this fix on your phone, and that updates are ultimately dependent on manufacturers and what fixes they chose to provide.

Hi amandabee,

In addition to the tracking bug, one of the developers suggested a possible fix for your specific issue with Simple Mobile:

I hope this helps. Please let us know if your issue is resolved, or if you have any other questions about your Firefox OS.

I was always able to recieve photos in SMS messages on my Android phone on Sprint. On my FirefoxOS phone on Simple, I cannot. I did contact Simple Mobile. This is their reply:

> Upon further review of your account, our system shows that it is provisioned in our system. Program your APN (Access Point Name) Settings for your Internet and Multimedia/Picture messaging to work using the following values: > > • APN Name: SIMPLE MOBILE > • APN: simple > • MMS APN: simple > • MMSC: http://smpl.mms.msg.eng.t-mobile.com/mms/wapenc > > Please be advised that updating the APN settings of the phone does not guarantee that MMS (Multimedia/Picture Messaging) will work. MMS is dependent upon your phone model's limitations.

Those are the settings I already had. Per Ralph, I tried adding MMS Port and Proxy settings: under Settings > Cellular and Data > Message Settings I added

> mms proxy: 216.155.165.50 > mms port: 8080

I am still not able to send or recieve photos while connected to wifi.
