Hi,

I can't get data or SMS working at all with settings provided by by carrier. They have suggested they don't support my Firefox Flame device. Is that possible? I thought connections were standard?

I'm in Australia and no carrier is selling Firefox OS devices here. Not sure what to do, the phone is almost useless if I only have WiFi.

Thanks

Hi,

I have never owned an iPhone.

Neither MMS or 3G data work at all and the carrier have told me this device is probably not supported. Is that possible?

I do not know your carrier and they may not support your phone but they do not need to - all you need to do is ask them the APN - goto settings Cellular & Data - data connection should be on - goto data settings and you may have to set it to custom settings and put in the APN - this may fix your data and text messaging.

you should be able to enter whatever is needed and restart phone and try it out - hope this works!

Hi patrick1234,

The Flame device should work on all mobile operators that use the GSM standard (SIM card) with the following frequencies:

  • 3G UMTS quad-band (850/900/1900/2100)

If you tell us the name of your network, we can look into more details.

Thanks,

- Ralph

Hi,

This is on the Optus network in Australia. The provider is called "amaysim".

This may help you - I just did a google search for the apn with Australia and optus, I would make sure you have that apn, if not customize it to that and then restart phone and try it out. It looks like your apn name is yesinternet or internet

I did some extra reading remember to read above on my earlier post on where to go to enter your apn - the only thing you should do is that and click customize and save it and try browser if no browser restart phone and you should have it - I am about 99% positive 1 of the 2 apn's above should work.

I will leave this page on here because it shows a bit more but I do not think you will need it.

Hi,

Thanks. I have tried those settings. They don't work on my Flame device.

Also note that restarting the device does not work, because once restarted the APN entered has been cleared. It does not remember the APN when restarting.

You must populate type as custom as otherwise settings will not stick.

Is anyone else with a flame able to recreate this problem via customizing the apn and hitting "ok to save" and restart that the customized apn is gone?? If so this is a bug that I am unable to recreate.

Hi,

I tried a sim for a different carrier and the APN was detected automatically. Data works fine.

It seems like the other carrier does not support FirefoxOS, though I am not sure how that is possible?

Hello there, Thanks for letting us know about your problem. It seems that, your Operator's APN configuration is not listed in the APN Database of Firefox OS. So, for using internet and MMS, you need to add the APN manually. As you have mentioned in your earlier reply that you are using Optus network in Australia, by seeing there [official website], I have got the APN information of them. For adding the APN, please do following Activate Data Connection

  1. Go to Settings
  2. Tap on Cellular & Data and go to Data settings
  3. In the APN field, type yesinternet
  4. then tap on OK which is in top right corner
    • Now you can surely use internet from your Flame Device

Activate MMS

  1. Go to Settings
  2. Tap on Cellular & Data and go to Message settings
  3. In the APN field, type MMS and scroll down to below
  4. Type the following field with appropriate information
  5. And your MMS should also start working

Please let us know whether this solution solve your problem. Regards

Hi,

No. That does not work with my carrier. The settings do not work and if the phone is restarted the settings are forgotten.

For a different sim card with a different carrier the APN was auto-detected and worked fine.

I still think that there may be another issue if the settings are not being saved, I do not know if anyone else is having these problems - I may be stretching a bit here but if the settings are working with the other sim and sticking possibly the sim you have is an issue for the Optus carrier - basicly right now it is trial and error have you tried another sim via the same carrier or are you sticking with the other sim that works and this is no longer an issue since your just going to stick with the other sim??

I really do not understand why the settings are not sticking if your clicking custom and hitting ok to save the apn you entered and restarting and it is not sticking that is an issue with the phone or the sim - but you kinda cancelled that out using the other sim that it is not the phone!
