Instead of reinstalling, could you check this:
If you navigate to the home page using one of these methods, do you get the correct page (the one you set in Options)?
- Click the home button (house icon) on the toolbar
- Use the Alt+Home keyboard shortcut
- Open a new window by pressing Ctrl+n
(1) If those work correctly and the problem is only when using the desktop shortcut to start Firefox:
Check the "Target" of your shortcut to see whether it has that unwanted page. right-click the icon > Properties > Shortcut tab. What you want is just the following:
"C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe"
(2) If those work correctly during your session, but revert back to the unwanted page when you exit and start Firefox up again:
You may have an optional settings file created by external software that is modifying Firefox's startup behavior. Please see this support article, particularly the part about a user.js file: How to fix preferences that won't save.
Also, beware of utility programs that roll back browser settings changes such as Advanced SystemCare.
(3) If Firefox is completely ignoring your setting in Options at all times:
It's probably a bad extension. Try disabling ALL nonessential or unrecognized extensions on the Add-ons page. Either:
- Ctrl+Shift+a
- "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons
In the left column, click Extensions. Then, if in doubt, disable (or if obviously crappy, Remove).
Often a link will appear above at least one disabled extension to restart Firefox. You can complete your work on the tab and click one of the links as the last step.
Does that help you regain control?
Is this only happening when you first start Firefox or also when you click the Home button on the Navigation Toolbar?
Can't you change the home page or don't you keep this change if you close and restart Firefox?

Do a malware check with several malware scanning programs on the Windows computer. Please scan with all programs because each program detects different malware. All these programs have free versions.
Make sure that you update each program to get the latest version of their databases before doing a scan.

As it turns out I had a software interferring with all settings. Your steps given to me by you as well as what I've already done did not work. It was very difficult to locate and remove. I did also remove Astromenda and I see it's back again. I actually found it in my +86 file and had to manually remove it from my control panel.
Download the Mozilla Search Reset {web link} This add-on is very simple: on installation, it backs up and then resets your search preferences and home page to their default values, and then uninstalls itself. This affects the search bar, URL bar searches, and the home page.
