Thunderbird stopped sending my email messages with an error message looking for my Password.
Although I have been using it for years, Thunderbird stopped sending my email messages and gave an error message looking for my Password. I looked at my Account Settings and there is a Red Box with Delete. This came on suddenly. I downloaded a Thunderbird Upgrade & installed it however it didn't fix the problem.
How can I fix this without Uninstalling the program. There is too much data saved including a substantial Address book that I can't afford to lose.

Hello Wayne
I don't know how to take screen shots so I'll send you what I transcribed from my email interactions.
First - I did reinstall/upgraded Thunderbird from this site, w/o uninstalling the original program. I did get to send out NEW emails however answering them or sending attachments I got the same messages.
Each problem started the same way. An error message:
Login to "Dunne4" failed (?) Login to server Mail.shaw.ca with user name Dunne4 failed
3 boxes displayed: RETRY ENTER NEW PASSWORD CANCEL
Next Box SEND MESSAGE ERROR ! Sending of message failed Unable to authenticate to Outgoing Server (SMTP). Please check the Password and verify the 'Authentication Method' in Account Settings/Outgoing Server (SMTP).
I opened the Account Settings, it read:
Account Settings - Dunne4@shaw.ca 2 boxes SET AS DEFAULT (greyed out) DELETE (in RED)
SMTP SERVER SETTINGS Description: Dunne4 Server Name: Mail.shaw.ca Port: 587 Default 587
Security and Authentication Connection Security: STARTTLS Authentication Method: Normal Password User Name: Dunne4
I opened the Outgoing Server button
OUTGOING SERVER SETTINGS
Dunne4 - mail.shaw.ca (Default)
Details of Selected Server:
Description: Dunne4 Server Type: SMTP Outgoing Server Server Name: mail.shaw.ca Port: 587 User Name: Dunne4 Authentication Method: Normal Password Connection Security: STARTTLS
This is everything that I saw trying to remedy the trouble, I can't figure it out. My biggest surprise is the RED DELETE button. I didn't touch it because I have a lot of information in my Thunderbird account that I don't know how to preserve or save.
I hope that this is enough information you need to diagnose whatever is causing this disruption in Thunderbird. I appreciate any & all the help that you can provide.
Thank you, Wayne
