Hi, since yesterday trying to send emails just results in the display box "Sending message" (in German) but it never completes that. Receiving emails works fine. The SMTP entries all appear ok, I have not changed anything in terms of hard- or software. I use windows 10 and thunderbird 115. Sending email via the online interface of the service provider works fine too. This problem appears only when trying to send emails via strato.de but not with gmx.de. As far as I can see the settings are identical. Any ideas? Best regards

Chosen solution

Hi, I checked through my list of smtp server settings (I run several email accounts with TB). The solution appears to be that the entry for strato.de appears twice, once as a normal one and once as a "(standard)" one. I have no idea why this is so, but the non-standard one used STARTTLS instead of SSL/ TLS like all others. After I changed that one to SSL / TLS as well it worked again. Maybe this helps others as well. Best

Is the strato account sending on smtp.strato.de, 465, SSL/TLS, normal password, strato email address, while the gmx account sends on mail.gmx.net, 587, STARTTLS, normal password, gmx email address? Maybe the strato account is trying to send on the gmx smtp.
