Copy Profile Over 2GB - Can I just copy the entire profile folder or do I have to copy the contents of the folder?

Can I just copy the entire profile folder and name it as a backup or do I have to copy the contents of the folder?

I just want to create a backup to include all my email messages.

If all you want to save are the email messages, do this:

  1. If IMAP, click File>offline>download first to ensure all messages are there on PC
  2. click help>troubleshootinginformation
  3. scroll to 'profile folder' and click 'open folder'
  4. exit thunderbird
  5. click the imapmail folder for IMAP account, or the mail folder for POP account
  6. now, click the account folder
  7. now, look for your message folders there, files such as inbox, inbox.msf, sent, sent.msf, etc. COPY the files (other than the msf ones) to wherever you want to save them.
