Hi! Since I've installed Thunderbird on my new computer with Windows 11, I've now twice experienced the disappearance from my inbox of a bunch of emails. Never had this before with Thunderbird. Could it be something needs doing in Settings (I couldn't find any relevant options)? The emails weren't among the newest, but they were all important.

Hi there, it seems I'm suffering from the same problems as others in several countries. I have also not been able to access my gmx.com account via Thunderbird for about a week now. I live in Belgium and use a Proton VPN, in case this is relevant. I can't find how to delete cookies in history, nor any other potential solutions to the problem. Any help offered is greatly appreciated! Best, Doreen

I can't send out my reply emails or on new ones b/c I mistakenly deleted the 'sent' option at the top. Actually all the options at the top are gone, including 'forward' etc. This is b/c I clicked with the R mouse on 2 choices there, (which I can't remember what they were called). I did this b/c the 'sent' word had gone gray and I was trying to fix the situation. My emails stopped going in the sent folder and turned up in drafts. I tried sending them from there but it came up with no send option too. Then I finally found 4 emails I was trying to send out in the 'outbox' which I never use! Eventually the computer asked if I wanted the unsent to be sent and it did work then. But I very much would like the former usual configuration to come back please for sending out emails. This is my request here. Interestingly some that went in the drafts were incomplete and did not include all my words! Strange. This is all on my Windows 11 desktop which I prefer to use. Interestingly also, my cell phone suddenly won't recognize my usual long time email address! So I can't forward photos off my cell phone to my Thunderbird (gmail) inbox now. This happened a few days ago, before today's problem. When I try, it says my email address in invalid!! And yet it is receiving the emails on gmail on the phone. But it also wouldn't let me send or even open up 'drafts' on the phone. Emails are arriving in my T-bird inbox all right on my desktop. 'T-bird is the default client on start-up'. On my desktop, my Bitdefender says my computer is 'safe' so there does not appear to be a problem there.

I'm changing email servers and need the best way to automatically backup my complete(multiple domains and user accounts) emails in thunderbird to a separate drive or local machine before changing servers. I would prefer an automated way to do this so I can continue to update backup file routinely

I already back up my profile regularly to a remote drive

Thank you in advance for any help you can give.

I am an emeritus professor using the UVM email account X@uvm.edu<mailto:X@uvm.edu>, which I have used for many years. I use Mozilla Thunderbird (current version, “Eclipse”) as my email client and my account is configured for UVM’s Microsoft 365/Exchange Online service. After my most recent required yearly password change, although I can still receive email in Thunderbird, I can no longer send email. When I attempt to send a message, I consistently see this error: “Login to account ‘smtp.office365.com’ failed. Login to server smtp.office365.com with username tosler@uvm.edu<mailto:X@uvm.edu> failed.” Here are my current settings:

 *

Incoming (IMAP):

    *

Server: outlook.office365.com

    *

Port: 993

    *

Connection security: SSL/TLS

    *

Authentication method: OAuth2

    *

Username: tosler@uvm.edu

 *

Outgoing (SMTP):

    *

Server: smtp.office365.com (I have also tested smtp.uvm.edu with the same result)

    *

Port: 587

    *

Connection security: STARTTLS

    *

Authentication method: OAuth2

    *

Username: X@uvm.edu

I have reinstalled Thunderbird, and I have removed all saved passwords and tokens for outlook.office365.com and smtp.office365.com, restarted the program, and completed the Microsoft/UVM sign‑in prompt again. IMAP continues to work and mail arrives normally, but SMTP authentication still fails with the error above. Because:

 *

The configuration matches Microsoft 365/Exchange Online client‑submission settings, and

 *

IMAP with OAuth2 works, while SMTP with OAuth2 fails,

it appears that this may be a server‑side policy or mailbox setting, rather than a client configuration problem. What are my options? Does the University of Vermont have to change some setting on their end on my behalf? Thanks. -turner

Hi there,

This one almost gave me a heart attack, naturally. It's pretty simple to reproduce:

1. Start a new reply to an existing email from someone. 2. Write for a while, stop. Thunderbird will save the message by uploading it to the IMAP server. 3. Open Gmail with the web or mobile app. The message will appear in the reply thread, without a "draft" label, as if it was sent to the recipient. 4. Edit the email again. Send. 5. Thunderbird will delete previous version. This is visible in the Gmail web client as "X deleted messages in this conversation." label and that's how I discovered it.

The recipient _appears_ to only see the latest version, but that's still kinda scary because it seemed like the draft was sent without the user clicking "Send".

Thanks!

hello, i cannot seem to find a solution online, hopefully someone can help.

i often receive emails with images attached, and most of the time people don't resize their images. you can imagine over time this all adds up in the email storage folder total size.

i dont always need to keep a 6mb image version, it can be reduced after i am done.

i would like a method to resize the received emails image attachment, to at least still have a smaller copy for refence, but not end up with a huge thunderbird email account profile (in the email received not externally saved)

preferably a one click solution, or even a routine i can run on the file system, etc. or some way to edit the received email and its attachment in program.

thanks

I am currently unable to login into my Thunderbird account. My email provider (Internet Lightspeed) told me to go into Tools>Settings > Privacy & Security > Certificates > Manage Certificates. In the Certificate Manager, go to the Servers tab, click Add Exception, enter the server address which is imap.lightspeed.ca. I did that and got the following response: This site provides valid, verified identification. There is no need to add an exception.

The Certificate Manager/Servers window now shows imap.lightspeed.ca:443 as the Server. Lightspeed says that is correct and need to contact Mozilla Thunderbird. Thunderbird updates are current. Any suggestions? Patrick

I have several email accounts hosted by One.Com. I have NO problems synchronising the emails in Thunderbird with IMAP. However I do not succeed to synchonise the Contacts. The Contacts list for each of these accounts are available through CALDAV. The format of the URL is https://caldav.one.com/addressbooks/users/user@example.com/contacts .

I am running Thunderbird 148.0.1 on Windows 11 and as far as I understand should this version support CALDAV. Thunderbird does not recognise the contacts list when adding the email account. I tried to manually add the address book (remote address book) but I get stuck in the Account Hub. When I enter username and URL the account hub responds with the message "caldav.one.com is known to be incompatible with Thunderbird" (translation from Swedish!). I then also tried with several Add ons without result.

Does someone has a work around?

I have 2 accounts. One account is for my normal email address, which contains my usual "Name+Surname@gmail.com The second account is for a fake name (as used on this forum): oldgrantonian@gmail.com

In Thunderbird, my normal email address works fine.

But the last email in my fake email account was on 16/02/2026. I can't send emails from the fake account.

The online version (mail.google.com) is fully up-to-date. I can send and receive emails in both accounts.

I would be grateful for any advice on how to restart the fake account.

Thanks

I'm Using Thunderbird version 148.0.1 (32-bit) on Windows 10 Pro I currently have 2 email accounts in Thunderbird...a Gmail account and a private account linked to my own webpage account. Both these accounts are working very well and I encountered no problems when I originally set them up some time ago....... However.. I am trying to add an additional email account. a Live .co.uk account I enter my Full Name and email address "xxxx@live.co.uk" as requested... I enter my password for this account and in my "Your Login" details ( the characters "xxxx" before the @ in my email address) I then select "Continue"........... Response : "looking up configuration...." Then.... Authentication failed. Please check the username and password...Exchange auth error I know I have entered the correct username and password for this account... and the account works fine on my mobile phone email app. using the same username and password..... No matter how I try, I am unable to set up this existing Live mail account so that I can access it in Thunderbird...... along with my other email accounts in Thunderbird, which are working OK.... Any suggestions as to how to fix this annoying problem, would be really appreciated......... Thank you
