Migrating thunderbird 16 to current version on Win11

I had an issue with Thunderbird update in the past on group emails and was told that I should stay with a version that worked 16. Now I am switching to a windows 11 computer. How do I migrate to the new current version of Thunderbird & Lightning while maintaining my settings. If I take the latest version I loose my old email addresses and settings.

Appreciate any suggestions.

A Bit longer I said. That was 6 years ago. I meant a few weeks, or months at the most.

So update to the new version and then just copy your profile from the old device to the new one.

Once you have the copy on the new device install Thunderbird. Then we may have to start messing around to force it to use the old profile, do not re add your account if asked. That will make things worse not better. It will most probably not go smoothly.

Ensuring you use the same 32 or 64 bit version will help reduce the issues. So download the right build here https://www.thunderbird.net/en-US/thunderbird/all/
