No–technical language: Firefox doesn't decide what it receives. If what's served is invalid, it's invalid. You'd need to look further upstream.
Either ask your internet provider why is that (they should be able to understand the code implications), or your antivirus/security software support if they scan and re–encrypt your secure connections.
Maybe restart your router or connect from a mobile hotspot if there's any difference.
Thank you jbr. I was using internet in a rental cottage when Firefox wouldn't open national-lottery website. But then once at home it worked. I'm also going to post another question: I always delete ALL browsing data after using the internet. However, when I next go to use it there is a whole load more kB under "temporary cached files and pages". This usually happens overnight, but has also happened in the daytime. Why would this be? Does it mean someone has gained access to my laptop? Now more concerned as have had fraudulent use of my bank card today.
This has been the case for most people — being on a guest network in someone else's place, where they can't influence the setup and are not familiar with the potential protections set on the networking appliance — as the owners just might have made some restrictions to protect their network or "fair use" by applying some filtering or security rules, which in turn end up denying the connections.
(These errors are most of the time meant to genuinely protect users in such situations — to make sure if there's a network condition that hints at someone else being able to decode passwords and credentials, or basically tampering with your secure connections, to make sure these do not proceed. As obnoxious that might seem in the first moment.)
As for the other question, I've seen it posted separately already — if nobody more familiar with storage of background data chips in, I'll take a look what the possibilities are.
