Why can't I use Ecosia as my search engine?

I have found, with your help, how to add a search engine but it won't accept the URL you gave me. This can't be regional as I have lived here for many years and always had Ecosia as my search engine. I like it and it's ethos so am not happy about this. Isn't there anything else I can do to get it?

I am so sorry! I had an eye operation yesterday so probably shouldn't be using a PC today.I didn't read the labels on the option spaces and put the URL in the wrong slot. I now have Ecosia, thank you a thousand times. Bee

Glad you figured it out! I realize the custom search provider pane is confusing and the potential errors are cryptic if you're not exactly "in the know" how these search providers work on the inside. Usually the companies also provide their own addons as an alternative for that reason for convenience — but I try to not recommend these unless necessary as they tend to do "too much" just to implant the search provider, so it's better if it's under the users control here in the settings, and nothing on the side needs to run all day long just to have a search engine available, so this path is usually preferable.

As for the regions I know Ecosia launched across several EU countries from Sweden through Benelux to Italy and is still available there, and for a while it was also offered to UK & France users but that might have just been an experiment with them, as I don't see it documented any further. So yes, the built in search engines change based on several factors, including market & competition — so now you know how to customize it to your liking no matter the trends;]
