after closing and reopening firefox, from a fresh reinstall, any and all video, does not matter which web site, looks like a bad 70's acid rock video. as long I have it open from initial reinstall and have not re-sync'd I can view video quite fine. For a short bit today, 11/17/2017, I had malwarebytes popping up with "blocking access to 'gn.symcd.com'" which was also happening when in MSN browser. Can't find info on what this is a symptom of I done multiple runs of malwarebytes scans, MS's November malware removal tool (takes 6.5 hours to scan says 1002 infected files detected while running then reports no infected files when done.) even did a; DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Scanhealth "no component store corruption detected." followed by; DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth "The component store corruption was repaired." have yet to run System File Checker tool

hi setlow, we are currently aware about this on some windows 8 configurations with amd graphics cards and older drivers. please see if there's a more recent graphics driver available for your system at https://support.amd.com/en-us/download and if installing that already solves the playback issue.

otherwise you can do the following to work around the problem: enter about:config into the firefox address bar (confirm the info message in case it shows up) & search for the preference named media.windows-media-foundation.use-nv12-format. double-click it and change its value to false.

any chance of getting the previous version back as this one is not suitable to my windows 8.1. As now it will play the videos BUT if I try to open a new tab or toggle between tabs it freezes my machine (particularly the hard drive is left spinning and not reading or writing happening and nothing else can be opened and the last of five firefox background operations can not be ended. And I have to turn off the power supply to get my machine back.

could you go to the firefox menu ≡ > help ? > troubleshooting information, copy the contents of that page and paste them here into a reply on a site like https://pastebin.mozilla.org and provide the link to the log here? this might give us a clue what is going on. thank you!

Sorry. There is no longer a firefox browser my machine. I had to run the DISM.exe the rest of the night after removal, and right now I seem to have my hard drive back under control. There is still a bug buried somewhere, it is windows after all, just haven't found it. Even dbl clicking the firefox 56.0.2 file to try and reinstall that browser last night would lock the drive. meanwhile I'm stuck in MS explorer, which is still buggy for some reason but then that was why I had firefox, and I'm not looking forward to trying to rebuild my book marks from scratch. What ever it is about release 57, it ain't ready to run on my windows 8.1machine. Still on the droids though.

The malwarebytes blocking the *.symcd.com urls was due to a false positive by malwarebytes and was fixed in a database update for malwarebytes.
