Depends on the way how you installed Win8. Since you do not see them anymore I guess the installation process wrote over your former installation and your bookmarks are probably lost. If you have a backup of your full Win 7 workstation you might be able to retrieve it there or if you were syncing your bookmarks with Firefox. Since you indicated that you are not technical.. I guess it's best you just start from scratch again and do a regular backup of your bookmarks to an enternal drive.

Unfortunately, at a certain point, you can't avoid reading some articles yourself if you are determined to figure out whether you can recover them.. :) try this Recover lost or missing Bookmarks or [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/restore-bookmarks-from-backup-or-mov...] If none of those help, just use 'recover bookmarks' as search string in this forum or on google or another search engine
