Problem getting logged on

I had a problem while on vacation. Some places that I stayed (one was a La Quinta) at had free wifi but you needed to enter a code on a web page that was supposed to open when i tried to access the internet. With Firefox, the web page that as supposed to open never did. I tried a different browser (chrome) and the web page showed up. Once I got past this, I was able to go back to Firefox. I have seen similar situations using my mobile phone. Denny's restaurant is one. I don't recall if McDonalds does or not. Do I have a setting set some place that causes the problem?

What other information would be needed to determine the problem and how would I get it?

You can check the connection settings and compare them to what other browsers use (maybe try auto-detect).
