Threading - why does it keep coming back? I have just realised it's back again on my Thunderbird and I never knowingly turned it back on.

Why does Mozilla keep trying to force it on users?

This has been an annoyance for users for several years now and the message has still not got through it would seem.

For an open and user-facing organisation, this is strange behaviour that I just do not comprehend. Include it if you want, but make it optional and easily so.

I know this is only the community forum, not Mozilla, but one would think that a wise organisation would keep an eye on what their customers were saying & feeling.

Issue: When Firefox starts after a system reboot, it starts on the incorrect desktop. This seems to be off by one; that is, I have Firefox assigned to Desktop 3 (using the Dock icon's Options menu). Under normal operation, it starts on Desktop 3, but after a reboot, it seems to start on (more recently) Desktop 2 or (earlier) Desktop 4. Unsure about what causes it to prefer 2 vs. 4.

This seems to happen after I've shut down (quit Firefox normally, shut down without reopening windows on login, power goes off, power on, log in, then click on the Firefox icon in the Dock) or after a system update (which reopens windows on login for me after rebooting and installing the update). It does not seem to happen after a Firefox update or after quitting Firefox normally and then restarting it from the Dock icon right away.

Pretty irritating, as I have major applications assigned to specific desktops, and Firefox is the only one that seems to forget which desktop it should be on.

Details:

Firefox 150.0.3 (aarch64):

  • Settings > General > Startup > Open previous windows and tabs > TRUE (checked)

macos 26.5 (25F71) Tahoe:

  • Settings > Desktop and Dock > Mission Control:
  • ---> Automatically rearrange Spaces based on most recent use: FALSE
  • ---> ...switch to a Space with open windows for that application: TRUE
  • ---> Group windows by application: TRUE
  • ---> Displays have separate Spaces: TRUE
  • Dock > Firefox application icon > [Right Click] > Options > Assign To > This Desktop (i.e., Desktop 3)
  • Apple Menu > Shutdown > Reopen windows when logging in: FALSE

Hello,

I am on Thunderbird 150.0.2 for Windows.

I am really suffering here. I need to change the font weight of unread messages. In a non-threaded list.

The default weight I get with my preferred font (Trebuchet MS) is not bold. It is BLACK. When I say BLACK, I mean ultra bold, display font, heading weight. Heavier than the boldest font that even exists in the font family. Thunderbird is creating this ultra mega black font by taking the bold font variant and applying a faux bold effect to it. The result is that the text is so heavy that it takes up twice as much horizontal space as the ordinary bold font variant. This becomes a usability issue because it's not possible to see the date, sender, and subject at the same time.

I have struggled and strived with userchrome.css. Spent hours combing through forums here and elsewhere. I've already enabled the mystery setting in the config editor. I put userchrome.css where it is supposed to be.

I saw a blog post from Mozilla that says "userchrome.css is not supported". What is the actual meaning of this? That it has been actively blocked from working anymore, ever, for anyone? Or that users are taking risks if they create userchrome.css? Why can't developers speak plain language? "Not supported" could mean many things.

When I go to the Style Editor, userchrome.css does not exist there. Which leads me to believe that user customizations are absolutely deprecated and we are not permitted to use userchrome.css.

I tried editing some of the rules in the Style Editor, but could not determine any way of actually storing the changes. When I click Save, I get a dialog where I can **EXPORT** the file. But I can't seem to actually save the changes, because CSS files do not appear to exist in the installation directory. It must be compiled into some library.

This is extremely unsatisfying and super frustrating. Just getting straight answers to things is super difficult, nothing stays the same for more than a couple months, and up to date information either does not exist or is not found by any search engine.

So, please help. I just need to change one setting, the font weight of unread messages. Since Thunderbird is allegedly open source, I thought I would have some ability to make such changes. But the Style Editor doesn't seem to actually be an editor, but merely a read-only interface to precompiled rules? If I wanted to change the font weight of unread messages, would I be forced to compile my own version of Thunderbird? I'm not competent to do that, and it would probably either prevent updates, or the updates would break my changes.

Please help, I am super desperate. I need to see the date, sender, and subject all at the same time. That doesn't seem like an unreasonable ask.

I would gladly pay for an email client that gives me control over my data *and* allows me to control the UI, but apparently that doesn't exist.

Whenever I create a new folder in one of my accounts, the new folder appears listed under my Unified Inbox instead of being listed under the account. It is super annoying, and then to correct it, I need to open Unified Inbox properties and uncheck it from the folder list. I only want Inboxes to appear in my Unified Inbox. How do I stop this from happening? Thanks

I just got a Galaxy Tab S9 FE+ tablet as an alternative to bringing my heavy laptop on an upcoming trip. I've been using Thunderbird on my PC for very many years, and love it.

As seen by the attached photo, I was hoping that TB for Android would work and can be configured similarly as the desktop version, with my multiple email accounts showing up on the left side with the number of emails to be read, and the emails listed on top with the viewing pane on the bottom.

What I don't like is a single screen with all emails shown, not knowing what's new, and in what folder they're in. I've taken great pains to create message filters to sort all incoming emails, sorting emails into separate folders.

Am I missing something, some setting that would allow me to recreate my desktop version on my tablet. I choose the S9 FE+ for it's 12.4" display, so there's ample rook to visualize this desktop setup.

Any help and suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks, Bill

Hello (this might fit better in "performance & connectivity?): Tbird 140.10.1 & .2 esr. W11p laptop v23. As of tonite (15may26), after update from 140.10.1 to .2, in a message, the "buttons" for a web link no longer appear, in the msg body. Instead the link is shown in full. How can I fix that?

Here's an example (others are longer) from our local rag "Press Democrat."

I also closed & re-opened tbird, did NOT reboot laptop. Problem remains.

Thank you.

I recently updated from a very old version of Thunderbird. The new version no longer shows the little popup messages at the bottom of my screen when automatically checking accounts for mail at the designated interval. As I have numerous email accounts (all set up as POP mail), set to check at different intervals, these popups were useful to me - they also showed when I manually checked an account, or all accounts - this also is not happening anymore. Have they been discontinued, or is it possible I turned them off? I did change some things to suppress nags to update Thunderbird during the time I was using the old version, and unfortunately didn't keep a record of those changes. I'd appreciate knowing which function in about:config controls this feature so I can check to see whether it's set correctly. Thanks!

English Almost all my icons in the taskbar, for open programs, are blue. How can I directly change the color of the Thunderbird tab in the Windows taskbar? It would be great to be able to choose so I can easily find Thunderbird and read my emails.

It was nice when FF was simple to use....unimcumbered with all the options...like the latest...profiles.

Why? It's getting to be as complicated as E and C..you don't need all those options - that's why I use FF.

Get rid, or allow the user, to pick and choose, and dump the unwanted stuff from cluttering the tool bar and other options. Just a suggestion that can be made to FF any longer. Use to be they'd welcome feedback.
