So transferring to a CD, I would be able to use these bookmarks on another machine, correct??

You can restore them to Firefox (v3.5 and above I think) on any machine. It overwrites the bookmarks on that copy of Firefox.

A memory stick would be simpler than a CDROM perhaps.

A memory stick would be much more convenient as it can also be used for making a backup of other valuable files in the Firefox Profile Folder like password and saved form data.
