Mozilla has had tarball versions of Firefox since when it started out under original name of Phoenix 0.1 back in September 2002. I prefer that over package builds as one can still get internal Firefox updates from Mozilla even when a version of Linux distro is made EOL in software package support and no more Firefox package updates

The Thunderbird community also has tarball versions of Thunderbird for Linux. https://www.thunderbird.net/en-US/thunderbird/all/
