Sync only mails from latest X month when using IMAP
How can I configure Thunderbird to only synchronize mails from the latest X month when using IMAP?
I found the "Retention Policy" settings but they seem to delete the mails (on the server? I didn't dare to try). Is there are similar settings that is concerned only with the local storage and thus does not delete the mail on the server?

Thanks for the pointer, I already configured it after setting up the account. But the problem was that I can only configure this setting after having set up the account already. And directly after setup, he pulls all mails, so it does not seem to effective there.
Also, this does not seem to affect the "house keeping", meaning he does not clear mails from his local storage once they exceed the configured 30 days limit. I guess that would be controlled by the "retention policy" but I guess that this one deletes them on the server too.
As you have already set up the Account Settings.
Suggest you try this to remove everything currently displaying in various imap folders. unsubscribe from seeing your various imap folders. Right click on imap mail account in Folder Pane and select 'Subscribe' to list. Then use the 'unsubscribe' button. Close thunderbird. Wait a few moments for background processes to complete. Start Thunderbird.
Please report back on results.

Thanks for your reply! I tried what you suggest, the weird thing is that the 'unsubscribe' doesn't seem to work. Here is what I did: - I toggle the boxed to unsubscribe from 'INBOX' and 'facebook' and clicked OK - I watched the activity manager which reported that the folder 'facebook' has been deleted. I waited some more minutes (the INBOX folder and all its mails stayed) - After some minutes, I restarted thunderbird and noticed that only the 'facebook' was gone, but the INBOX stayed. It is also still fetching new mails upon arrival.
Please see the screenshot here which has been taken after the restart.
