I get a pop-up indicating a security/stability upgrade, but I am at the current level, is this OK?
The pop-up only occurs on Windows and not-on Linux. Although the Mozilla Firefox website indicates I an current, this pop-up claims I need a security and stability update for 48.0.2. I believe I may have accepted this once before. It seems to have resulted in some URL, which I don't remember hijacking any attempt to view any other URL. I solved that problem by reinstalling Firefox. I don't want to go through that again, so I am avoiding this "update". I have tried to add a captured screen shot of the pop-up but can'tconvert it to a format that your add image option will accept.

hello, this is a scam tactic that is trying to trick you into installing malware, so don't download or execute this kind of stuff just because of a popup or redirect on a website! updates are handled automatically by firefox so you don't have to download anything for that (and you can always initiate a manual check for updates in the firefox menu ≡ > help ? > about firefox).
we suspect this is coming form "malvertising" (=ads placed on legitimate websites that redirect you to this fraudulent message), so using an adblocking addon like https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/ublock-origin/ would also help with that.

The Firefox 48.0.2 update is not really needed on Linux anyways as it was a update for Windows version of Firefox.
