
I just got a new computer with Windows 8, downloaded the newest Thunderbird, and it is very slow, often giving "Not responding" messages with prolonged delays
I have a trial version of MacAfee that came with the computer. It was so slow, that I ended up REstoring my computer back to factory settings today...I reinstalled Mozilla, and it seemed OK initially, but it is already becoming very slow again.

Either remove McAfee completely or contact their product support for assistance modifying the default settings that do not work well with Thunderbird,
