Tb deleted all of my messages from inbox and Trash -Now no messges. Damn you Tb. Damn you to hell!!!

IanHHH

I started Tb it downloaded my messges from the server and I then looked into my inbox and the program began deleting all of the messages. I could not stop it. Then it deleted all of the files in trash. From then on every folder I clicked on it asked me if I wanted to delete the folder. Never done this before.

I quit Tb and restarted it and it is now back to normal.

What happened? How do I prevent this from ever happening again?

sounds like your imap mail server was either unavailable, or Thunderbird was synchronizing deletion with the server that had already occurred there.

Do some deletions in web mail recently?

Matt, thank you for your suggestions. The emails had already been downloaded from the server and the server is set to delete them on the server after they are downloaded.

What do you mean by "synchronizing deletion with the server' this sounds like it might be the case. Why does that occur?

I have changed the server to not delete my messages after download so that if any further problems occur the messages will still be on there. I will just have to manage the load on the server.

Is the account IMAP?
