There used to be a progress bar for when emails were being downloaded. It's gone now. What happened to it?
My email provider doesn't always play nice. There has always been a progress bar in the status bar to indicate that emails were downloading correctly. If I didn't see the progress bar, I knew to check with the provider. Recently, the progress bar went away and I have no way of knowing if emails are downloading or not. They just kind of show up by surprise. Additionally, I used to get a message that there were no new messages availalble to be downloaded (if there were no messages to download) on the same status bar. It's gone as well. So I have no way of knowing if I'm not getting messages because there are none or if I'm not getting messages because the provider is doing something. Therefore, my question is: Is this an error with Thunderbird or was there an update that resulted in a loss of function that I relied on? If it's an error, what do I do to correct it?

Good to know. It has been a long time since this problem has been asked about. I thought Ad Blocker had fixed their add on.

Is your status bar turned off?
From the menu bar select View-Toolbars-Status Bar
Yes. The status bar has been on. I have been able to see the "Unread:" and "Total:" blocks on the left and can still see them.
Here's an intersting thing I just noticed. I normally keep Thunderbird maximized. I tried Restoring Down (platform is Windows 7) and noticed that the triangle of dots you expect to see that gives you an area to click and drag to resize the window isn't on the right of the status bar, it's on the left right after the "Total:" block. That makes me think that parts of the status bar are hidden or missing (depending on how its coded).
There is an add on called Ad Blocker that has caused problems with the status bar in the past. If you have this disable it and see if things improve.
Bingo! That was it! Disabled Ad Blocker and the status bar returned to normal.
