Hi! I am trying to rid myself of Microsoft Outlook and am transitioning to Thunderbird. I will speak in Outlook terms... I want to do the same with Thunderbird. My Outlook activity is saved on the server and on my hard drive as .pst files. I periodically do a backup up by simply copying them to another drive. I would like to do the same in Thunderbird but don't know what the file name, extention or folder name/locaton is.

What is the file name and extention for the Thunderbird version of these files and what folder on my hard drive can I find them? A search on C:/ for .mbox returns nothing. Your insights will be welcomed!

I am running W11, and use Thunderbird and Firefox, with Dudk Duck Go, but since downloading TB139.0.2 TB has become schizophrenic If I click on the TB con,the latest version of TB displays and I find it difficult to negotiate. But if I double click on that icon the older version of TB loads and seems to work OK

I work in NZ (NZST) which is two hours ahead of Australia (AEST). When I receive appointments from Australia, the time should update to NZST if the appropriate info is in the ICS file. However what is actually happenning is that Thunderbird is simply storing the appointment without converting the time zone, so a 2pm AEST appt becomes 2pm NZST not 4pm.

I have checked the appointments contain the appropriate information - see attached screenshot from Thunderbird for an example, showing the appointment details for an appt sent a few days ago. However when I accept this, the appt appears in my Calendar at 2pm.

I have checked and reset the local time zone as Pacific/Auckland and tried setting in manually and restarting and tried converting back to automatic and restarting. I have searched the help base on Mozilla. This suggests that Calendar SHOULD convert time zones so I am unsure why this not happening. I have even asked Chat GPT for help, with no success :-)

I am an avid Thunderbird supporter and have been a donor for many years. My Australian work is becoming more and more important and this problem is now reaching a point where it is affecting my work. I would really value any advice as to how to fix this as I will have to switch to using a Google Calendar if I can't get this to work somehow.

We are showing up on a block list, obviously. It lasts a few days and stops. I didn't think TBird could have anything to do with it, but if I copy the body of my message, immediately open my Web Mail, create a message to the same recipient, and send it, it doesn't bounce. My co-workers are convinced this is a problem with TBird.

I'm in the process of cleaning up Thunderbird e-mail before moving to a new computer. I started with 11,593 e-mails in my Inbox and 7,799 e-mails in my Sent folder. I'm now down to 7,634 in my Inbox and 4,965 in my Sent folder. I've allocated 2 weeks for this process and found that it's taking me about 3 hours per day to meet my daily goals. I'm finding that I'm spending at LEAST half the time responding to "Empty-Trash/Compact-folders" requests. There are times I can delete 50 e-mails at a time without getting a request. Other times I will try to delete ten e-mails and get the request. With the old version of Thunderbird I could literally delete hundreds of e-mails at a time. Can you help? Russ Bukwa Yardley, PA ps. I have an issue where its seems like one of my email accounts cannot get the correct password.

I have been using ChatGPT for help and here is its summary of the issue -

Recently got new computer. I signed into my gmail account using Thunderbird but my inbox is empty. I have all my email addresses but no messages in my inbox. Why?.

Transfer Thunderbird email and data to another computer. I have attempted to transfer my email data from / to Windows 10 computers. The instructions seem straightforward but so far I have not been able to bring up the "new" computer after copying / transferring the data. I have a Linux laptop I could transfer to, but the versions don't match and I'm not sure it would work anyway. Any help or direction to instructions (I thought I have looked everywhere) would be great. Thanks

I have lost the toolbar at the top where I get all my messages. It is the tool bar that includes "View, Edit, Message, Layout Help etc.) Can you help me get it back?

A few days ago, my email inbox was somehow deleted. I had backed up my profile the day before. I want to restore this original Inbox email and merge it with my current email. I have conducted extensive research on how to accomplish this, but no matter what I do, when I try to merge my IMAP email, it dutifully deletes the older emails since they are not on the Server.

Does anyone on this forum know how to recover this old email and merge it with the existing later email? The earlier email contains critical information.

My IMAP email is hosted on Bluehost, and they can't seem to figure out how to set this up from my Thunderbird profile backup.

Can someone please help me with this?

I have 4 email accounts setup in Thunderbird. When I turn my laptop on and open the program all the email accounts automatically expand(open to show their folders). I then have scroll up thru all the accounts and folders to get back to the top account. If I don't shut down or reboot they will stay closed or go back to what state they were in when last closed. If I reboot or turn on pc again they all expand.

I shut down and boot many times a day when moving around the office or on calls. So it kinda annoys me and slows me down. I cant seem to find a setting that fixes this if it is even possible. I want them to stay closed till I open them.

I recently deleted a gmail account from my TB. It was a shared account so that account is still open but I have no more need of accessing it. So I went into my TB\Account Actions\Remove Account. It no longer exists on my main TB page which shows my different email accounts. Suddenly, and constantly, I have this window pop up, requesting my login info, which I no longer have. When I close the window, it just opens back up. I have to close it in order to get to my main TB window. It's horribly frustrating. Any ideas??

I've downloaded the program to a second computer and put in my creditials and it's giving me an error "unable to log in at server. Probably wrong configuration, username or password." I've entered the correct info. Help

I have had an ongoing problem with Thunderbird being unable to log into the various mail servers that I use. I've tried repeatedly to solve this problem and have been able to cure it in the past by clearing the cache, but it recurs over and over again. I cannot keep wasting my time like this. I'm an independent contractor and I need to be able to use my e-mail client consistently. I've got work to do! This morning, it's suddenly decided that it cannot log into any of the three services that I use.

Is there a lasting solution to this problem? If not, please tell me and I'll move on peacefully, but please don't keep me chasing my tail for something that cannot be fixed.

I converted to Thunderbird 128,11.1esr in May 2025. My address book did not migrate to the newer version and I don't have the old one. Also, I don't know how to return to the previous version of Thunderbird.

can not send emails recently as about a month ago. Error message is :unable to authenicate to outgoing server. Please check the password and verifiy the authenticate method in account settings outgoing server . smtp not sure if i am doing this right? please help this old guy

I installed the update to Thunderbird as suggested this morning and my whole address book has disappeared. This is a major problem for me. Can you please tell me where it is and how to restore it to my account? Many thanks.
