How can I get my bookmarks to sync?

Running the current versions of Firefox on my Galaxy S5 and my macbook. I can sign in to sync on both devices, but my mobile-created bookmarks don't show up on my computer, and my desktop bookmarks don't show up in the "bookmarks" tab on android. The "synced tabs" is working, so I know the sync sign-in worked. "Bookmarks" is of course checked on for both devices.

I have about 1400 bookmarks, so the 5000 limit should not be a problem. How long should it take to sync the bookmarks, and is there any indication that the sync is ongoing? I have been trying to get this working for about a month, so it's had plenty of time to sync things.
