Hi I put "about:support" in the URL field. The pressed "Open folder" button on the profile folder section on the troubleshooting page, then I got an error: "Location is not available." I looked for the folder, but I could not. "about:support" describes the location "C:\Users\xxx\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\forv3n79.default-release but the Roamig folder does not contain "Mozzilla" folder and the subdirectories.

I want to take the backup as the purpose.

I suppose this is a bug. So, could you fix it?

Thanks, G

There's one other method here -

Finding your profile without opening Firefox https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/profiles-where-firefox-stores-user-data#w_finding-your-profile-without-opening-firefox

Note that those are hidden folders.

You may have to search for Profiles in Windows explorer.

You appear to be using the Firefox MSIX version from the MS store. It is possible that this version works differently than the regular version. https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/download-firefox-windows-microsoft-store

Thanks for your reply, RobertJ, and cor-el.

I tried "Finding your profile without opening Firefox." However, it did not work. Then I found the profiles by using Window Explorer. It seems like the location changed. "C:\Users\xxx\AppData\Local\Packages\Mozilla.Firefox_n80bbvh6b1yt2\LocalCache\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox" The location does not match "about:support." So, I want to ask Mozilla team to correct it but I'm not familiar with how to process it.

I knew installing firefox via MS store was different from the regular installer. Before 104.0 or past, the location matched with "about:support."

Thanks, regards, G

I found some information about profile folder locations for Firefox MSIX (Microsoft Store) installs here: Bug 1727878 [MSIX] Firefox is no longer opened after Refresh

From what I gather, If you only installed Firefox from the Microsoft Store, then the "C:\Users\xxx\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\forv3n79.default-release location shown in about:support would be a "virtual" location while the "real" profile folder would be in the \AppData\Local\Packages\... location. However, you said (quote), I put "about:support" in the URL field. The pressed "Open folder" button on the profile folder section on the troubleshooting page, then I got an error: "Location is not available."

That looks like a bug. Can you file a Firefox bug report and include [MSIX] in the summary? You can use this link to file the bug: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/enter_bug.cgi?product=Firefox Please give as much information as possible when you file the bug report and post back here with the bug report number.

I also started a discussion about this in the Profiles - Where Firefox stores your bookmarks, passwords and other user data article discussion, about adding more information to the article about Mozilla Store installations and finding the profile folder: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/profiles-where-firefox-stores-user-data/discuss/10897 Profile folder location for Firefox MSIX (Microsoft Store) installation

I get "Access Denied" and the message, see " You are not authorized to access bug 1788052" when I try that link so it must have a security flag set. Can you make the bug public? If not, good luck and let us know the outcome.

Hi AliceWyman,

Oh, I'm so sorry. I made mistake. I did not know the consequence. I have asked them how to change the classification to "bug public" or do you know? I really want you to participate in them. Meantime, the progress is as follows.

Reporter Description • 4 hours ago Attached image The error message and showing wrong location — Details

User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64; rv:104.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/104.0

Steps to reproduce:

   1. Put " about:support " in the URL field and enter.
   2. I see the location as " C:\Users\xxx\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\forv3n79.default-release. "
   3. Press " Open folder " next to Profile Folder
   4. Get the error " The location is not available. "

I also tried Win key + R and %APPDATA%\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles Then got the same result.

So, reproducing is very easy.

Actual results:

I could not get profiles by pressing Open folder."

However, the profiles are in a different location as follows. C:\Users\xxx\AppData\Local\Packages\Mozilla.Firefox_n80bbvh6b1yt2\LocalCache\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox I found them by searching with Windows Explorer.

Expected results:

The open button should open the profiles location in Windows Explorer. Hiroshige Shizuta Reporter Comment 1 • 4 hours ago

Hi, May I ask you to fix a bug with Firefox 104.0 MSIX that my PC installed via MS Store? The problem is mismatching the Profiles location that is between the actual location and indicated in "about:support." I press the Open button in Troubleshooting Information. Then I get an error "The location is not available."

I have been using the MSIX version of Firefox for a long time, and this problem has not happened.

I went to the location of the Profiles suppose to be there by Windows Explorer. It was nothing. Then I searched the profile in Windows Explorer and found them in a different directory.

I have posted this on the Firefox community forum and the title is "Where is Firefox profile for 104.0." https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1387574

My system Firefox Windows MSIX package Mozilla-MSIX - 1.0 104.0(64-bit) Windows 11 pro v21H2 (OS Build 220000,918) Intel Core i7-8565 Memory : 32 GB SSD 1TB and 500GB. Free space 484GB and 325GB respectively. :Gijs (he/him)

This doesn't seem like a security issue that needs to be kept hidden? Group: firefox-core-security → mozilla-employee-confidential Component: Untriaged → Installer Nick Alexander :nalexander [he/him]

Reporter: this is a weirdness with MSIX packages and Microsoft's virtualization of paths. That path is correct, I expect, from within Firefox. If you paste that path into the URL bar, I expect you'll see the correct thing. The issue is that outside Firefox, the path isn't correct. Distinguishing this is tricky.

gijs: correct -- this is not a security issue.

bhearsum: can you attach this to the profile virtualization issues? Flags: needinfo?(bhearsum@mozilla.com) Hiroshige Shizuta Reporter Comment 4 • 25 minutes ago

   Explorer
Which is the correct pass that should get the profiles,
   C:\Users\xxx\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\forv3n79.default-release that is in about:support.
   OR
C:\Users\xxx\AppData\Local\Packages\Mozilla.Firefox_n80bbvh6b1yt2\LocalCache\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox that is found by Windows Explorer search and took 20min.

Sorry, it messed up the thread.

Hi, Nick Which is the correct pass that should get the profiles, C:\Users\xxx\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\forv3n79.default-release (that is in about:support.) OR C:\Users\xxx\AppData\Local\Packages\Mozilla.Firefox_n80bbvh6b1yt2\LocalCache\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox (that is found by Windows Explorer search and took 20min.)

I put the first one in the URL, but I could not get them. Instead, I get "Firefox.exe."

This editor for post is not easy to use. And sorry for messing this up.

The point is as follows.

I see from what you copied from the bug report that the flag was changed as follows: Group: firefox-core-security → mozilla-employee-confidential but, since I am not a Mozilla employee, I still get "Access Denied" and the message, "You are not authorized to access bug 1788052". Can you ask again to make the bug public by removing mozilla-employee-confidential ? In any case, the issue I think should be fixed is your description, (quote) I put "about:support" in the URL field. The pressed "Open folder" button on the profile folder section on the troubleshooting page, then I got an error: "Location is not available." As I see it, the actual Firefox profile folder location should open when you click "Open Folder".

Hi AliceWyman,

I'm sorry for the patience. I asked them again as bellow. So far, no update on #1788052 by them.

Could you help me? I want to show this bug track to another support forum community member. When I opened this report, I checked for "Only users in all of the", selected groups can view this bug: then I checked a box that "Confidential Mozilla Employee Bug (non-security)." I was wrong because I'm not familiar with an opening case on Bugzilla.

I also tried to uncheck it by myself, but nothing happens and stays checked.

A community member experienced this bug before and she can help to solve this problem.

If she could not see this case by this Friday., I'll close this BUG# and reopen this case as new.

Thanks in advance,

Thanks, regards, G

Hi AliceWyman,

It seems like a kind staff has corrected the check box. I think now you can access bug#1788052. Could you try it?

Yes. I can access the bug report now and I'm following its progress: Bug 1788052 Mismatching Profiles location between actual location and indicated in "about:support."

I'll add the bug report to the Profiles article discussion thread I started.

OK, AliceWyman.

I posted my test result on bug#1788052. The repoducing seems easy. The profiles have not been there and installed FFX via MS store as newly. The bug may occur.
