I believe that Firefox had a recent update which was auto implemented after-which my entire collection of saved passwords disappeared off of my Desktop computer. Over the next couple or more weeks I reconstructed many of the passwords and was heading back to normal. Today, for unknown reason my entire collection of saved passwords have again been erased and I do not know how and assume they are not recoverable so am back to square one. On my home computer I have it set to not allow auto updates and have a Firefox update waiting and hesitate to allow it, expecting the same result there to my saved passwords. Nothing significant has been done to or with my computer in this same time period so am at a loss as to why this happened not just once but now twice with cause unknown (I am unaware of any second Firefox update in the interim which could have caused this but cannot rule this out).
Is it possible to change the URL to which sync is set ?

(AI written summary of troubleshooting steps taken before making this support thread)
Firefox version: - 152.0.1 Release - 153.0 Nightly
OS: - Windows 11 build 26200
GPU: - NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 SUPER
Codec package: - Microsoft HEVC Video Extensions installed from Microsoft Store
Problem
Firefox does not expose HEVC playback support, causing Twitch to disable 1440p streams encoded with HEVC.
The same machine can play the same HEVC Twitch streams in Chrome immediately after installing HEVC Video Extensions.
Expected result
Firefox should report HEVC playback support and allow playback of HEVC streams, as Chrome does on the same system.
Actual result
Firefox reports HEVC as unsupported.
about:support:
codecSupportInfo: H264 SWDEC HWDEC VP9 SWDEC HWDEC VP8 SWDEC HWDEC AV1 SWDEC HWDEC HEVC NONE
Troubleshooting already performed
- Installed Microsoft HEVC Video Extensions - Rebooted Windows - Updated NVIDIA drivers - Verified hardware acceleration is enabled - Tested with a brand new Firefox profile - Tested with Firefox Nightly - Confirmed Chrome can play the same HEVC streams
Additional observations
Chrome: - Twitch 1440p becomes available immediately after installing HEVC Video Extensions - Twitch Stats for Nerds reports:
hev1.1.6.L150.90.0.0.0.0.0
Firefox: - Twitch reports that the browser does not support the required resolution - 1440p remains greyed out - about:support continues to report HEVC NONE
Reproducible tests
Firefox console:
MediaSource.isTypeSupported('video/mp4; codecs="hev1.1.6.L150.90"')
Result: false
MediaSource.isTypeSupported('video/mp4; codecs="hvc1.1.6.L150.90"')
Result: false
navigator.mediaCapabilities.decodingInfo({
type: "media-source",
video: {
contentType: 'video/mp4; codecs="hev1.1.6.L150.90"',
width: 2560,
height: 1440,
bitrate: 8000000,
framerate: 60
}
})
Result: {
supported: false, smooth: false, powerEfficient: false
}
For comparison:
MediaSource.isTypeSupported('video/mp4; codecs="av01.0.08M.08"')
Result: true
navigator.mediaCapabilities.decodingInfo({
type: "file",
video: {
contentType: 'video/mp4; codecs="av01.0.08M.08"',
width: 2560,
height: 1440,
bitrate: 8000000,
framerate: 60
}
})
Result: {
supported: true, smooth: true, powerEfficient: true
}
Additional note
Setting:
dom.media.webcodecs.h265.enabled = true
causes HTML5 codec test (https://html5test.co/) to report H.265 support, but does not change:
- about:support - MediaSource.isTypeSupported() - MediaCapabilities.decodingInfo() - Twitch HEVC playback availability
Question
Is this a known issue with HEVC Media Source Extensions support on Windows 11 build 26200, or is there another requirement for Firefox to expose HEVC playback capability through MediaSource and MediaCapabilities when the Windows HEVC codec is installed and functioning in Chromium-based browsers?

I have spell check turned on in setting to check as I type. And yes I have two dictionaries downloaded and installed. But as I am working inside a program and I have to enter data into a text field, if I want it spell checked I have to right click and then click on Spell check for every field that I enter text into. For a while last week it was working without having to do that, and I had done nothing to make it happen. It was nice. Since then I realized I want spell check on. But I can't figure out how to set it so that it turns on for every field that I click into to enter text. Any ideas?

I keep getting: "Your connection may not be private Learn more. The page isn’t redirecting properly Firefox can’t connect to the server at auth.www.abebooks.com." I believe that I followed your instructions, but I'm not sure. I do not understand why "auth." appears in the Mozilla response when I do not type "www.auth.abebooks.com" but simply "www.abebooks.com." Thank you! Claude Gratton

I am in China and do not seem to be able to connect to the Mozilla Firefox VPN, to access my gmail (and other features). When I try to turn it on, I get a message: "Could not connect to VPN: Try again in a few minutes" I did this many times. Should I continue trying or is it hopeless?
Thank you
It gives an antivirus message.

Since a few days the free VPN in Firefox doesn't work anymore. When I activate it and try to load a website, i get the message: Connection with VPN failed. Try again in a few minutes. It also says, that my connection is possibly not private and that an app can possibly see my data traffic. The VPN always used to work fine, and I didn't change anything.

The autocomplete dropdowns for form fields have recently changed appearance, and I strongly prefer the previous, simple design.
The new version has:
The previous autocomplete list was much more compact and clean, without the clock icons, excessive padding or rounded hover backgrounds.
Is there currently a setting, `about:config` preference or other supported way to restore the old autocomplete list appearance?
Ideally, I would like to use the previous style:
If there is no setting to restore the old appearance, could an option be added to allow users to choose between the old and new autocomplete UI?
Am I using latest update?
