How do I keep my Dell computer from automatically going to dell.msn.com when I attempt to go to www.msn.com?

It seems, somehow, Dell has embedded my computer to default to dell.msn.com when I attempt to go to www.msn.com with firefox. This also occurs with Explorer, but I don't care about that. The real problem to me is that I am being forced to accept Bing even though I do not wish to participate with them when using firefox going to the msn.com site. I have already done all the resets & other trouble shooting suggestions suggested using firefox troubleshooting. Even my quit capable wife frustrates me with the typical easy fix suggestions. I have already done the easy stuff. So please, read my problem carefully so not to give me some quick "Oh, that's simple Simon" response that I have already considered. Thank you & let me know what you know about this problem. ~fLoYd~

Hello,

Try Firefox Safe Mode to see if the problem goes away. Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode, which disables most add-ons.

(If you're not using it, switch to the Default theme.)

  • On Windows you can open Firefox 4.0+ in Safe Mode by holding the Shift key when you open the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
  • On Mac you can open Firefox 4.0+ in Safe Mode by holding the option key while starting Firefox.
  • On Linux you can open Firefox 4.0+ in Safe Mode by quitting Firefox and then going to your Terminal and running: firefox -safe-mode (you may need to specify the Firefox installation path e.g. /usr/lib/firefox)
  • Or open the Help menu and click on the Restart with Add-ons Disabled... menu item while Firefox is running.

FirefoxSafeMode

Once you get the pop-up, just select "'Start in Safe Mode" Safe Mode Fx 15 - Win

If the issue is not present in Firefox Safe Mode, your problem is probably caused by an extension, and you need to figure out which one. Please follow the Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems article for that.

To exit the Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before opening Firefox for normal use again.

When you figure out what's causing your issues, please let us know. It might help other users who have the same problem.

Thank you.

No fix. I tried it already & again at your request & still no fix. Please re-read my original question so we can address the core issue. My Dell computer seems to be formatted in such a way so that when I enter www.msn.com in the address bar the address will immediately change to dell.msn.com which then tries to force me to accept Bing as my search engine with no other options available. I will reiterate that I have already tried all the standard simple troubleshooting fix methods. Please help me with the core issue without guessing or simply tell me you don't know how to help me. I will accept either way without complaint. ~fLoYd~

Can you check for any suspicious programs in the control panel? such as DELL related "bloatware".

Does this happen in IE too?

I usually run a free utility called PC Decrapifier (http://pcdecrapifier.com/) on new Dell PCs which allows you to uninstall all the preloaded software and settings. Perhaps give that a go?
