'Menu icon' > 'Options' > 'Options' > Display' > 'Formatting' tab click on 'Advanced'
What Text Encoding are you using for 'incoming mail' ? Try 'Unicode UTF-8'
If you have an Anti-Virus scanning incoming mail, switch it off to see if this improves the situation with new incoming mail.
